Did a search, did not find an answer BF1942:RTR

If this has come up before, I am really sorry, but I didn't see anything come up in my search.
The thing is that I got Battlefield 1942. Worked, (sometimes cut out loading up a map, but that's not the problem i'm interested in).
I then got Road to Rome. I tried loading it up, and then I got you need v 1.25 installed. I tried doing that, and then it said it couldn't ("Problems syning, could not install" or something along those lines).
Okay, I went into the CD and installed the patch manually. I could go in a play battlefield (it worked and was updated), but when I tried to install RTR, it still said it needed to update, and then it said it couldn't continue (same message as before).
I think it might be because I have a no-cd crack, but I've tried installing it several times (completely wiping out the folder and starting again) and tried many different versions (with and without crack) with no success.
Any help would be appreiated. Sorry if this has been asked before or if I'm not supposed to be asking about this here. I aplogise in advance.

do *not* apply any crack before you're done completely installing/patching.

Yeah, I tried that before. I even tried it again last night, but to no avail. I still get the "trouble syning".
Any other ideas? I have a 56K modem (that gets 44K max) so I don't fancy downloading the v 1.31 patch if I don't have too.
Thanks again in advance.

sure you use an ORIGINAL version of battlefield?

Sounds like you've run into an EA technical support problem.
Get the game working with them and then come back here when you have a problem with a specific crack.

Okay, I thought it might be an EA tech problem. Thanks for your time.

Your welcome, its nice to help legit users.

EA's answer (if you ever get one let me know how you got an answer) will probably for you to update to 1.31.
