PS2 Hard Drive
I am a n00b here. But I just got this hard drive that fits in the back of my ps2, it's been formatted so there's no data, what do I need to do so that the ps2 recognizes it. any help would be greatly appreciated, just found this forum, maybe someone's already answer this, since there's so much good info here, i haven't searched all of it yet
thank you |
it needs to be formatted to be compatible with the ps2, if someone sold u a HD from japan and u are in the us, u got hosed
|
What does that mean?
Can I plug it into my pc and format it correctly or does it need to be formatted on the PS2?
Is there special software I can download? Thanks for the help in advance |
gotta be formatted on the ps2, but its not gonna work because the software isnt out to format for ps2 as far as i know
|
It depends what harddrive for the ps2 it is.
As far as I'm aware there are 3 different types: One that u can use instead of a memory card One that is designed to go with the networking package One that goes with the PS2 linux developement package. |
Ottoman's Response?

What depends on that, the software I need? If that is the case then do you know where I can get the software for any of those packages or even the memory card? thanks again, |
First off none of them can be used for anything else, ie u can't use one for mem card and networking etc.
So first u have to find out which one you've got. The networking one is useless without the rest of the kit as is the linux developement one. |
I see . . .
well here is the situation - I was given a hard drive which fits perfectly into the back end of the ps2, whether it is configured for the network package or the linux package I am not sure, what I would really just like to do is use it as an extra large memory card, so really if there is some software or some way that I can configure it so the ps2 will understand it is available; that's more or less what I am looking to do. Like I said before I am kind of a n00b so I don't really know if this is even possible or if I am asking to do the impossible, but I was kinda just hoping it would all work out.
all in all, does anyone know if I can just format the harddrive plug it in as a master/slave/cable-select and have it register within the ps2 as an extra large memory card? I really appreciate your patience with me, I don't know too much in regards to console gaming, my experience is more PC oriented so maybe what I am asking isn't possible, I guess I was just wishful thinking - thank you again for all the help - and let me know if it's possible |
