I had asimilar problem, but opposite. I could burn but not anything else. Ire-installed and found the same problem. Turns out it was related to have to many burning programs and some were messing with each other. No clue if there is any help here, but thats the clopsest thing I know of.

its weird as hell because it worked fine before i reformated and i can play cds, dvds, make images from a dvd but i cant burn the dvd or erase the dvd/rw its like my dvd burner doesnt exist i guess i could try taking it out and puttin it back in? this is crazy

What version of Windows are you running. I know with XP you can go to the device manager and see what hardware you have installed. Check it out, it could have detected you drive as another one. In device manager you can also unistall the drive then just restart and it should autodetect it.

what version windows ,maybe u need to install your writer with cd that came with it (depending on your writer and what version windows)
if not your aspi drivers most likely needs updating |
im running Me and i have a verbatim dvd+r/w and it came with 2 cd's 1 is nero express and the other was win dvd and both are installed so i guess i have to search for it or something

Reinstalling the drivers might work. Also disconnecting the dvd drive and plugging it back in to rerecognise it may work as well.
|
i updated the driver, unplugged and plugged back in checked the device manager and still nothing. not only can i not burn or erase dvds but ym computer wont shut down either because of my geforce2 (i had this same problem last year and i downloaded a driver and it worked, tried again and nothing) so i think it might be time to introduce my computer to a gallon of gasoline and a match along with my ps2 :D

When I had my problem I re-installed windows and all my programs 3 times before I figured out what it was. Fourth time I finally got it. Believe me I was ready to torch some stuff also.

never used windows me but i still say check your aspii drivers

i have another option, which i think is kinda good. cause i had the exact same problem of my dvd burner not being able to be recognized by windows. so what i did was i did a system restore to an earlier date and it worked liked a charm again. to this day i havent had a problem with it. so give system restore a shot..it might work...it did for me :)

that probably would would but i did a computer reformat and reformating is like buying it brand new starting from scratch if you will. thats why im suprised its not working because it worked when i first bought and plugged it in, and now its being an asshole like this
thanks sublime90 |
as dust says, ASPI layer
then, presumably you are using RecordNow/Primo, re-upgrade your PX engine to latest version 390 keep us posted :) |
ok i downloaded that force aspi and did INSTASPI and still the same thing. before when i used nero express, right above where it says "what would you like to burn" there used to be a box that would let me select my cd burner or my dvd burner, now i dont have that option and its only reading my cd burner when i try to burn something, same thing with nero burning rom whent he wizard comes up i can only click on cd not dvd, and finally for recordnow max, it shows my dvd burner but i cant make it the host its like the dvd burner doesnt exist..only cd burner

I've had this experience twice now with bundled software, the best thing I can recommend is use a version of nero that was'nt bundled, it worked 4 me both times.
