Plextor 16x Locks Up Computer When Burning CD Image
Problem: I cannot write disk images ( .bin / .cue , .iso , etc. ) to CD anymore using my Plextor 16/10/40A CD-RW. About 5%-8% into writing ANY disk image to CD , the writing process ceases and sometimes the computer locks up shortly after this. At this time, the Plextor drive appears to be spinning continuous until I reboot. At the time the writing ceases, the Nero Burning Rom software log monitor reads : SCSE/IDE command aborted .
I have tried this using other software too like CDRWIN 3.9c . CDRWIN reports this error message : http://67.83.26.59:98/armed_and_dwi/plextor.gif CDRWIN also generates this log file. I am running Windows XP Professional on an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with all the latest drivers and motherboard BIOS. I have tried switching the Plextor drive from Slave to Master and the result is the same. Note that writing an Audio CD or a plain Data File CD works absolutely fine , no problems whatsoever. Also note that when I simulate the writing of a disk image , it completes sucessfully. UPDATE 2003.04.25: Problem solved. I used different drivers for my motherboard. Previously I had been using version 2.03 drivers provided on the motherboard's chipset maker's website ( NViDIA ). So I tried instead to use drivers supplied by the motherboard's physical manufacturer ( ASUS ) instead. That did the trick. Thanks for the sugguestions anyway |
Have you tried different software - try making an image using Alcohol 120% so you can narrow it down to either hardware or software problem

Have you tried updating your ASPI layer

Using CDRWIN, I have tried both "Use ASPI drivers already installed on system" and "Use ASPI drivers that come with CDRWIN." Same result for both of them. I have also tried things like writing the CD at a slower speed, but the same result. Strangely, when I do a simulation for a disc image, the simulation suceeds... |
That cdrwin looks kinda weird. Are you using cdrwin 5? Is so trash it. It is garbage.

I am going to try putting my drive in someone else's computer. |
