A question to installers re: "d" point...

ok,
So i'm doing my homework while I wait for my X-ecuter 2 lite to come in. I think the most of it will be cakewalk. Question is on the d0 point, i've seen some sites say you need to scratch it to get to the copper, others don't. is it an actual hole and if so why can't you just put the wire into it? used to do this with series 9xxx playstation 1's.

any links to usefuls sites would be asppreciated.

Says that they scratched it, but I did not scratch mine.

hmmm
the d0 has gotten be the biggest pain in the @$$ involving the x2 lite
its more or less your choice
if u can get it without scratching, then good job
if your having trouble, then u should just scratch it off
good luck to ya
its the only real problem of the x2 lite

I believe thats just to get the lacquer coating off. Almost all electronic boards have it to help reduce corrosion. Either its so thin it doenst stop electricity or maybe the heat of solder melts it. I never scrape mine and they work fine.

thanks...is it an actual hole or not? I have a version 1 Xb, so I assume it is filled in like the rest of the solder points unlike version 1.1,1.2..like I said still have not opened it yet.

I have a v1 and it is a small hole. Perfect for small wires.

Try soldering on the underside of motherboard (its in a diffrent place) the point of solder is a lot bigger and is a solder spot

Yes the D0 spot on the under side is larger and is easier to solder.

I think what i'll try, like I used to on the ps1 installs is put the wire in the hole, ensure it gets good contact and use electrical tape to hold it in place. maybe a drop of solder too...is that crazy or no??
always worked on the ps1, though somepeeps advise against it.

If you are gonna go to that much work to disassemble the Box and wire that modchip up, then why not solder it? Its quick and solder is a lot more reliable than tape.
