which version ps2 do I have?

used to have a v4, but it broke.
Got this from eb.
serial: FU05xxxxx
SCPH-30001 R
would it be a 5?
Never saw one with F in the serial.
Thanks

Do you have the screw pictured below?

Yes, there is a screw. And a little piece of metal in the hole to the left of it that comes up and loops.
So this would be a version 5 then?
Also, do you know where I would find the solder points for a neo mod 2.5? The site I got it at now only has a 2.6 diagram. Many thanks.

Before you solder your 2.5 I would HIGHLY suggest getting another mod chip.......

Or your V5 will end up being a high dollar paperweight... (when the Neo gets done with it...)

bighap 11-04-2003 21:38

Yeah you might as well put your ps2 in the garbage if you are going to put a Neo in it. You can either buy an apple chip for under $25 here or spend $200 to get a new ps2. Your decision.

cooterteef 11-04-2003 22:12

I see. maybe thats what happened to my last one.
What will it do exactly? It worked good for 2 yrs then all the sudden it wouldnt boot dvd-r anymore. When you put the original TOC dvd in and it ejected, it wouldnt stop spinning. It would boot cdr & originals though.

The only thing about a magic though is the amount of wires. Are the clip kits anygood that reduce it to 7 wires?
Ijust hate soldering onto capacitors and resistors pain in the butt.
too easy to lift off the pcb.

tks

bighap 11-04-2003 22:21

The Neo chips supply too high of voltage to your laser resulting in your laser being fried. This is what happened to your previous ps2. Dvd support is almost always the first to go. Stay away from the magic chip. They have a lot of issues. The clips reduce the number of wires to be soldered but these are very chincy and can come loose. Get either an apple($25) or a messiah 2($50). They are tops. Not sure where you are located, but Bill of freedomlives.com does a superb job installing mods. I sent mine to him as well as many others here. He is located just outside Chicago.

thanks for the info.
What about the no solder mods? do they do ok? Is it true they don't play any 80 minute cdrs? that's pretty much all of them isn't it?

bighap 11-04-2003 22:37

Yeah they play 80 min cdr. No solder mods are somewhat acceptable. Most users grow sick of the swap BS you have to go through. You know about that since you had a Neo. They also don't play all games.....

cooterteef 12-04-2003 07:57

interesting. is there a list of games that they won't play? would just like to know before I get one.

alse where can I pick one up at a good price?
tks

http://www.consolesource.com/playsta...p2-ace-key.htm
what about a ace key? only one wire to solder.

bighap 12-04-2003 09:31

The no solder should play everything if you use a GS2 or AR2 instead of the swap magic discs. The no solder costs about the same everywhere, about $12-$13. I personally like this store. Just get the no solder, the ace key is pretty much the same thing.

Thanks bighap for all the help.
I just ordered it through that site.
How long do they usually take?
Are they in Asia?
I live in SouthEast US. Hope it's pretty quick um ready to play some games :)

bighap 12-04-2003 19:58

Yeah they are in Asia. Shouldn't take more than a week to arrive.
