magic 3.1 and dvd-r

I recently got a new v7 after my v4 died.
I had the 3.1 put in and it plays everything fine except dvd-r burns from my a03.
All the burns worked great on my v4 with neo 2.5.
It does play stampped games bought in asia, but not burnt ones from my pc.
I tried swapping the W point on the board, but didnt do anything apart from now i can sometimes get dvd-rw to boot.
The laser unit makes a clicking noise when faced with a dvd-r though.
Any ideas if this is the chip or the laser unit.

Does your PS2 play CD-R backups of PS2 games? If it does then could be a laser azimuth problem. Word is that some v7 had azimuth set sloppily from sony. You can find instructions on this easy adjustment in the forum stickies.

Also, the 3.1 makes your system more picky with dvd backups. The same game that doesn't work with a 3.1 can work with a Messiah 2 in the same system.

What media are you using?

media

I use apple media and have never had any problem with them.
The system does play PS2 cd-r backups, so guess it could be the laser unit.
Does the adjustment your talking about need special equipment?

It requires an allen wrench, the ones with a hex head. Some I have seen use a small phillips screwdriver.

U might find if u use better dvd-r media ur problem goes away without adjusting the laser.

Try Ritek dark purple or Traxdata.

No luck with adjustments

I tried adjusting the azimuth on the rails and made no difference at all.
I guess I will try the more popular media and see if this helps.
Anyone got a good sourse for the riteks?
Thanks
