Good luck trying to backup a dual layered DVD disc. The way u mooted, although possible, is not really feasible unless you make your own installer (if you see what I mean). The only real way of backing the game up is by making an image to your hard drive and playing the game that way. Or, although this kind of talk is not allowed here... by downloading a certain image that is now OUTCASTed, and then burning that to a DVDr.

Failing all that... you could just install from the original, and use the NoDVD patch by the gimps.

hmmm.. and how to make your own installer i wonder... and image tool? o0o0o0oo0o0o...

...ummm...
what the hell is one of them?

Actually, when you make an image on the hard disk, it will be VERY big. 9Gigs ? But nothing stops you from using WinRAR 3.0 to compress it (may reduce it to 5Gigs), and the important thing is that WinRAR 3.0 has an option to make volumes of a certain size. If you use this option to create 4.7G volumes, you'll automatically get two volumes that each fit on one dvdr. If you want to use the image, you just have to decompress it back to your hard disk and load it in Daemon Tools. I have done this for some of my backups. For example, I made a backup of all my Sims cds (I've got all the expansion packs for my little sister, ahem :D), this is a total of five clonecd images (unleashed not included), and I made one gigantic archive spread over 5 cd's with the volume option of 740,000,000 bytes per volume (or what I can overburn on one 80 min cd). I did this because my writer can't do safedisc 2 anyway. The same thing will also work for that DVD, it's just a question of using Winrar and daemon tools.

That method that TheWiz is mooting is all good too.

Use Wise Installmaster to build a new install.
The Sims, including Unleashed, fits on 2 cds this way.

Looking in a dictionary (printed 1987 mind u):

Thanks for the tip. One of these days, if I got some spare time, I'll be sure to test that one out. Installing the sims right now takes up about an hour or more.

isn´t it easier to compress all files with winrar at highest ratio and split them into 650 MB files ?
copy all to cd and also the GimpsRus NoDVD Crack.
maybe you also need the Registry entries...
don´t know, cause i´m getting the game tomorrow.
but when i have it i´ll tell you more about how to successfully backup.

JoyBoy 28-03-2003 00:33

cdkiller, that method has been attempted already by some WAREZ group. Did not work out the way intended. But it did work though.

cdkiller 28-03-2003 04:25

the group wich tried that don´t have any ideas how to backup ;)
i´m writing a guide (i got tha game today) how to back it up to cds. expect the guide later today...

cdkiller 28-03-2003 13:27

cdkiller 29-03-2003 01:42
