Which DVD Writer
Hi all
I am about to buy a DVD writer and I am just wondering which one to get. I notice from your sigs that some of you have DVD writers and I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance! RMOG |
personally i say stick with the pioneer range
ao4 or ao5 people say the sony dru 500 is ok as well |
Like dust said, get a Pioneer. You can't go wrong with them.
|
also, the cendyne 105 sold at office max with a 50 bucks rebate is an Pionner a05, but much cheaper... thats the one i just bought a while back and it works flawlessly... plus burns at 4x with the correct media....

Thanks for all your replys!
I think i'll get me a Pioneer 105/A05. Thx again RMOG |
DVD-R vs +R
I actually have 2 drives, I bought a Pioneer A104 DVD -R and a Tritton Viper Internal for DVD +R. I can tell you I agree with the posts above. Get the Pioneer. Not only is it less expensive but I have had fewer problems and greater success with the -R format.

Many words of wisdom!!!!!:)
The A05/105/Cendyne version is a AWESOME drive........ You can't go wrong with it...... I have had the A05 sice the DAY it came out, and I have NEVER been happier!!!!! Good luck in your choices..... |
Well I'm starting to think Pioneer is crap...
I have the A05. Mine was burning Xbox games that would freeze when no one else would get the same problem with the same Isos. I did exchange it and the same thing. I tried the exact same methods as everyone else too. So tomorrow I'm getting a X-Ecuter2 Lite! installed. Then I'll know if it is the burner or if it was the modchip. I had a X-Ecuter v1 and the bios could not be upgraded. I did have a A04 but it must have been a bad drive. it was a return so what can you spect. This one would just not read any DVD-R or DVD-RWs. I guess someone must have scrwed it with a bad flash. I tried different firmwares and no help. The drive was screwed. PS2 games burn 100% working no problem. However I just burned a few Dreamcast games yesterday and I noticed the games would speed up in some parts, the music would speed up too. This happens in the menus usually. They seem to run fine in game. However I never had any problem like this on my old Plextor burner. If you ask me I'll say stay away from Pioneer. Try Sony or better yet the new Plextor DVD burner. You can never go wrong with Plextor. I'm just waiting for the new Pioneer burner to come out and stores to get rid of the A05s so I can go and exchange it for the new model since I bought a 5 year warranty on my A05. |
philips dvd+rw 228 bit more expensive than - but ive never had a coaster yet.
|
Thanks for all the replys :) !
I notice that the Phillips and Plextor drives use DVD + R instead of - R. Can the PS2 read both, if so which works better? and Is + R media as readily available and as compatible with DVD players? One final thing.. Is the media of a higher/lower quality than - R media. All advice appreciated! RMOG |

Thanks BG!
I think i'll stick with the Pioneer 105/A05 unless I can get a bit more cash together and then I might get the Sony DRU500 :) RMOG |

BUT, I also see NO reason to spend the extra money on it just for the ability of burning the +r/+rw format...... I have NEVER had a use for it...... And I burn everything but the kitchen sink (and on RARE occasions, that also)...... :) |
