Problems with DVD-R backups
I have a problem playing DVD-R movie backups in my PS2. They play OK on my player and my PC.
It seems the problem is when I create a new DVD (ISO) and burn the files to a disk it will not play on the PS2. Yet if I create a nero image (from the previously created DVD (ISO)) and burn that, that plays OK. I have tried various media (Traxdata, Databsafe Classic, Verbatim) and have now also upgraded the firmware to 1.40 on my Pioneer A04 DVD drive. All to no avail my PS2 will not play DVD-R's that were created from scratch. Has anyone come across this mystifying problem before??? Thanks |
Did you run the wizzard to create a new dvd and did you rip the movie and drag the necessary files into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero?
|
Yes and Yes!
I create a new DVD (ISO) and then dragged the directories AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS to the new compilation. I created these files by ripping my original using Smart Ripper and then using DVD2ONE to compress the film to under 4.7Gb. After speaking to someone today, they told me it could be Nero that it causing the problems when I am writing the disk. i use Nero 5.5.7.2. ANyone know any truth in this, also I choose to create a DVD (ISO) not a DVD (UDF), what is the difference? Thanks |
You NEED to update your Nero. Many dvd problems were fixed with 5.5.10.0. They now have 5.5.10.15a, get it here
|
There was a bug on earlier versions of Nero which caused DVD's not to be playable in all players as the resulting DVD was not 100% DVD format.
This problem was fixed in V5.5.10.7 and above. I would recommend updating to the latest version of Nero. My DVD-R's all play in my son's PS2 and our other DVD players. Yeah, I know I'm greedy having more than one DVD player, hehehe!! |
you would most likely need a dvd region x, when you copy a dvd the zone is removed so the ps2 will only play its own zone , unless you have a chip?
|
The zone isn't removed when making a copy. The only thing that is removed is the macrovision. Having a mod does not allow you to play out of region dvds. His problem is likely his version of Nero.

bighap
Are you taking order for the PS3, it will probably be more user friendly than Sony's ha ha ha!!!! |
:p Sure am. Only costs a little more than a psx. Just adds a little more $ for the magical foil and rubber duckie.:D

But as Bighap KNOWS...... I do it the "old school" way........ (Not using DVD-X-COPY):D :D |
InfoEdit and all that stuff. Been there, didn't like it. Ever consider making the switch BG? It is sooooo easy. Just like burning a cdr.

It just seems that I "have more control" doing it this way..... What can I say...... I'm HARD HEADED!!!!:D :D |
Understandable. dvdxcopy platinum is going to be featuring all those options you get by using infoedit. Removing audio streams, subtitles, etc. Probably won't be coming out for a while though.:(

Had that problem... thought that it was the media but...
If you load the VIDEO_TS.IFO file into IfoEdit and then click on the "Get VTS Sectors" button and click yes to any pop ups then burn the VIDEO_TS folder you will find that it will play on a PS2 with no problems and 99% of set top box's. Forgot to say I use Nero V5.5.9.17 and select DVD-movie with only the ISO Level 1, ISO9660 and Joliet options selected and they work fine on 60p DVD-R's. I have used Prasi RMax and most others Gear and Nero engin. |
