Simple XBOX Mod Questions!

Ok, here we go.

1. I am experienced in mod installing. I've done PSX, PS2, Dreamcast, etc. So I'm not afraid to open things up and use extreme heat to melt the motherboard if need be (*grin*).

2. Which MOD chip for XBox is generally considered best in terms of NOT messing the console up or causing bizarre changes?

3. Switchable mod chips - do the switches come with the chips (and are there instructions) or is that something the installer has to do?

Basically I have a neighbor who wants his box modded but does NOT want to mess it up or lose his online privileges. And the information out there is VERY confusing.

Help me out here!

I did browse the forum. Lots of people not answering such questions directly. :)

Just figured I'd ask and be blunt.

Turns out he ordered an X2 Pro (hey it's his money) and the pogo pins. I'll just put a switch on it. Hmm... do I want to dremel a hole in his case?

Tell him to return the pogo pin adapter and solder the chip in there for him. This was he can't bitch in the unlikely event it moves out of alignment and you have to open it back up and get it aliened again.

In that case, I hope one of you can flash the chip, as it does not come with hacked bios. Still a good choice in chip though.

There is a spot on the back of the xbox, in the corner of where the fan is. There is enouph room for wires there. No need for holes.

Thank you Quall.

I will probably tell him to nix the pogo pins, I really don't think he wants to continually open the case, and it's not like it's THAT many wires. LOL.

No offense to noobs and the non-mechanically inclined, but soldering is pretty easy.

'Course it's easy for me to say that from where I sit, having mastered it in Junior High, soldering things that DIDN'T cost $300 to replace.

LOL. Yes it is. I would have bought the a X2 LITE if I hadn’t had such bad luck in soldering the M2 in my PS2. I killed 2 PS2s before I got it right. Just took them back saying they didn’t power up, witch they didn’t after I got done with them.
And since my XBox was way past its 30 return I didn’t wanta risk killing it. If it would have been with in the 30 days, I would have headed up the soldering iron and went to work on it.

I've never killed a unit... yet (fingers crossed). That includes a dozen or so PSX's, one PS1, several Dreamcasts, two PS2's (one Neo2.5 later upgraded to an Apple and one Magic3.1) and soon to be an XBox.

:)

Not a PlayStation fan at all so I don't really know, but isn't the PS1 and PSX the same thing?

AXmichigan 20-03-2003 13:01

yea
psx=ps1
hehe
