motherboard size

Does any one know where I can find a motherboard small enough to fit inside the XBox case?

Needs to be able to support a 1GHz CPU or faster
And have two COM ports

Intergraded NIC and video card would be great also, but not required.

y do u wanna change the motherboard?
u do know that changin the motherboard doesn't allow the dvd drive to read it

I think you're wastin your time but for your question I've seen a couple small form factored boards. They were a real bitch to work on in a tiny computer case and had no upgrade ability. I've heard them called Baby - like BabyAT or BabyATX. Scour usual comp hardware sources or eBay for some poor bastard stuck with some.

You haven't really stated what you're attempting with it but if you're willing to change the board why keep the Xbox case? In theory if you used a comp mobo then you could put it in a comp case and transfer all the Xbox components into the comp setup. A computer with Xbox guts would be um L33T. Just an interesting idea.

I doubt he is trying to make an Xbox from a PC, sounds more like he wants to build himself a fancy looking PC !!

Its proberbly easier to pick up a book PC in a black case, these normally sell for about the same price as an equivelant full system, but with a very small foot print.

maybe somthing like this !!

No not really. This is what I want to do.

As some of you know my other love in technology is “DSS Testing”
One field in testing is Emulation. Meaning a slave computer does all the work if the smart card. Most people just have normal PC cases some where not to far away from their TVs, to run the emulation software on.

I thinking about maybe trying out EMU but all my PCs are busy, and I didn’t wanta PC case next to my TV, so I kinda dismissed the idea, until I looked at my XBox. Then I remembered about a year ago, the had EMU software for the H card that ran on Linux, and I knew the XBox would run Linux. But since then, the H stream has been shut down, leaving us the HU card. And the HU EMU software only runs on Windows.

So then I can came up the idea of a normal PC motherboard so I could install Windows and run the EMU software, but I still wanted to do it with the XBox, hence the small mother board

And also, the XBox being $200 it would be a cheap and easy "slave" system to run the software on if the HU software could run on Linux.

Hmm. I don't know much about the DSS stuff but that sounds interesting if I'm understanding you right.

i was realy into dss big style untill about 12 months ago.
i have a manhattan dsr-2500 apci with seca 1.3 black cam and viaccess black cam. with a 2.0 channel master dish.

i lost interest when seca and viaccess brought out v2 cams etc. i am realy interested in this emulation idea.
could you send me some info thanks.

I checked out your links rms2001 and I understand your idea now. That site is interesting but I don't like the idea of fee based forums. I did read your noob faq and was impressed though. Not really my cup of tea but I like seeing all the things done by way of emulation these days. Please keep us updated if you have any progress on this Xbox Linux/dsstester project.

Most of it is free, there is a part you do have to pay for to get into. Its just to off set the high bandwidth costs that DSSU gos through.

When the time comes and they have HU EMU software that will run on Lunix I'll maybe give this some more thought. As I was thinking putting a differt motherboard in the XBox is kinda defeating the hole point of really useing the XBox as an EMU system. and when this does become possable I will post my thoughts and findings here.

Ah ... i see...

I think you`ll find the smaller all in one M/B`s fit just fine in an older style VCR case, and dont look out of place in the TV cabinet ..:D

LOL your right. There was a member who did that over at DSSU. He used the tape-instret door to access the smart card and floppy drive. Looked like a slick set up.

I just wanted to do it with XBox just b/c it would look cool.
