bad cd?

Hello,

I'm trying to backup my mohaa 2 - spearhead cd with clonecd or alcohol 120 but the cd reading is very bad in 3 different cd drives.

after 20 minutes it has only read out 1%, that's because I only get 'disc read error at:' messages. Is this part of the safedisc 2 protection or is my cd bad? The installation of the game is going perfectly and quick but this is gonna take forever! :(

the cd itself doesn't have deep scratches and/or stains. I cleaned it several times but no go.

anyone got a suggestion?

Porto

there are a program that's can read bad sector fast. I have no clue wish program. or U can download blindwrite tools. and waith for the time it's take. Bad sectors can take time to read in. And there are very many often!

The read errors from the sectors ~800-10000 are normal for the Safedisk protection.
As krondike suggested, there is a program to help speed up the reading of these errors. It is called Daemon Tools - it is not the main function of Daemon Tools, but it is an added bonus. Goto the Daemon Tools website >> www.daemon-tools.net << and read the online manual for instructions on how to use it's 'Fast Dump' feature.

Use Nero

Comon guys you should know better Nero is the only good burning program out there....i'v tryd them all and only one that acully works right and it's free with your cd burner is nero

i can copy any game (but Hitman 2) i'v come across never ever had any problems

do:

-take off on the fly put the cd in your burrer drive
-unslelect joleit
--do countnue wirh erorrs
- tell it to read the cd at 1x (4x pushing it)
-tell it to burn at 1-4x and this works for a fact with moh,red alert 2,C&C genenels, wolfenstein, unreal 2, etc..i got no clue why hitman 2 don't copy but the rest do

Bull****! Nero is good for creating new compilations but when you need to copy protected discs there are far better programs such as Alcohol 120%

Whilst Nero is a good progie for some things it deffinatly isnt the best program for backing up protected games. Ok as you more than likely know its not all about what proggie you use as your cdrw needs to be up to the job but id say its half the battle won backing up games if you you use the right software and nero dosent fall into that catagory :p .
Also as far as hitman 2 goes im not surprised you had trouble doing it with nero as its secuRom protected (new version if i remember correctly). Do you not use a proggie to scan the media to see what protection is used and then ajust your settings accordingly? I do and i have backed up hitman 2 using clonecd V4.1.0.1 and clonyxxl v2.006 so the evidence would seem to speak for its self wouldnt you agree? (Nero is not the best proggie for backing up games). Also id say you were in the minority if you have managed to back up the games you claim to of backed up using nero.

Also @ Porto as far as your backing up of spearhead gh0sth@ckers info is spot on but if your a newbie (and we all were once) and dont understand about read errors and Daemon Tools then why not just leave your cdrw and wait untill its done ?
I did just that when i backed up Mafia (be4 i understood all the jargon ect) and thats a 3 disk game and it must of took around 2 and a half hours to back up all 3 disks but its backed up now and works perfectly as a 1.1 :p .

Check this out, it's hornybluecow's other thread. I don't think we've got a new expert here, folks :D
