Ritek Media Problem???
 

I am fairly new so please bear with me..i just got my modded brand new PS2 back from Bill and he did a great job. He installed a Magic 3.6 for me.Thanks for recommending him guys. Anyways I am having trouble with my backups.

I have a Pioneer DVR-104 and I am following the instructions using Record Now to a T. But I am having trouble playing my backups. I have tried several different games and I have tried 3 different types of media. I used TDK DVD-R up to 2x, I used Ritek DVD-R and I used the PIONEER DVD-RW that came with my DVD Burner. The only one that has successfully been able to play is believe it or not the DVD-RW. I've backed up 3 different games on that DVD-RW and all three have worked no problem..but I tried the same three games and backed them up with the same exact method and nothing but coasters. I noticed the DVD-RW is the only one that does not have a purplish color to it, its more a blue tint. I was still curious so I decided to backup a DVD Movie (SCARFACE of course) to one of the RITEKS since I have 50 of them and low and behold my PS2 played the DVD backup no problems..So know I don't know if its the media????

Does anyone have any suggestions..by the way my PS2 is brandnew I sent it to Bill never used. So i know its not a laser issue or anything like that. I have backed up some CDR PS2 games and they worked fine as well as my old PS1 backups..

I think i pretty much covered everything.

and Yes i'm booting the PS2 properly b/c i do get the backups on my DVD-RW to work.

What firmware are you using with your 104?

I have firmware 1.40 on it.

Bill fully tests his modded systems, so there must be something wrong on your end. Are you using RecordNow Max 4.5 or another version? Upgrade if you aren't using 4.5.

I am using Record Now DX which I read somewhere on here is the same thing as Record Now. The level i'm using is 4.11 so I will try to upgrade and see what happens. Thanks !!!

RecordNow Max and RercordNow DX are the same. 4.11 works for some but not others. Make the switch and you should be fine.

Upgraded to Record Now Max 4.5 and still no dice...I am going to try different media. I wonder if i got a bad batch of Riteks. Any other suggestions???

Before you go buy new media, try downgrading your firmware to 1.31

Thanks for the info. But how do i do the downgrade? There are no instructions with the zip file? Do i just run the executable or do i have to do something with the other 2 files.

I tried some other media and my backups worked no problem. I tried the Pioneer DVD-R that came with my DVD recorder and the backup worked flawlessly. I also went to my local CompUSA and bought a Memorex DVD-R Ver 2.0 and an Imation DVD-R Ver 2.0.

The Memorex worked without a hitch, but the Imation gave me the same results as the TDK DVD-R and my Riteks. I got the red "please insert a PlayStation 2 Disc" on these type of media.

I do want to try the downgrade because I bought 50 of these Riteks and I don't want them to be garbage. I have 5 Coasters so far but even with that its still better than paying 4$ a pop for the Memorex and the Pioneers are $6 each. But at least I know i have an option with the memorex all be it an expensive one.

tried primo dvd?
 

maybe try useing primo dvd or nero i had a game that would not burn on primo or record now so i used nero and come to find out reason why it would'nt burn it was scrathed nero burned it. it was mk deadly allince but it loaded a lil and froze so i gave up i belive it was scratched and would not burn.

Downgraded
 

Well I downgraded my firmware and I still got the same problem yet another Ritek coaster. I backed up the same game to a Memorex DVD-R and it worked no problem.

I would try Primo DVD or Nero if it wasn't that I couldn't get any backups to work but I have gotten 4 successful DVD Rom backups with Memorex and Pioneer media so I ruled everything else out.

I think I got a bad batch of Riteks and from what I've read it looks like that happens. At least they are still good for movies.

I'm gonna have to order a small batch of Riteks from somewhere other than ALLMEDIAOUTLET.com b/c being this was my first purchase from them and I got a bad batch I won't buy from them again.

Very trustworthy and HIGHLY rec.... by numerous people on this forum....

Bill is excellent, man. MY PS2 came back quickly and flawlessly, just make sure you follow all the directions on the website and get in contact with him via email and/or phone before you send it to him to make sure you have everything necessary for him to do the work. I sent him a brand new out the box PS2 because I wanted to be assured there would be no laser issues.
