The 2 top dogs in this class are:

Pioneer A05 & SonyDRU500A....

They both burn DVD-R at 4X......

The Sony will burn both the -R/-RW format and the +R/+RW format.

The Pioneer will only burn the -R/-RW format.....

I personally have NO need for the +R/+RW format so I chose the Pioneer..... AND LOVE IT.....

the A05/105 was less then 1/2 the price of the dru500 also, made it an easy choise for me.

There is really no point in spending the extra cash for the ability to use both formats if you aren't going to use them. -r/-rw is more widely used and supported, so I would go with the Pioneer.

the cendyne (pioneer) is going back on sale at officemax starting sunday for $169 after rebates

eatme 07-03-2003 16:21

is that the a05???

BG 07-03-2003 16:24

Yes.....

Cendyne's drives are actually the same as the Pioneer drives except with the Cendyne name..... They even show up in the drive properties as a "Pioneer"

Cendyne has the 4X burner (which is the A05)
and they also have the 2X (which is the A04)

Get one! They are dirt cheap. Unless you want to spend an extra $100+ for an official Pioneer.
