Protection Scanners

What is everyones best/favorite copy protection scanner? I currently use YAPS and I'm wondering if there is anything better I should be using.

Please Note: Many Scanners are frontends to CloneCD. I don't use CloneCD and never will again, It crashes my PC and refuses to burn discs.

Clony XXL - the latest version is not a frontend to Clone CD. It's just a copy protection identifier with suggested settings.
I believe there's also a version of Clony XXL specially for Gamejack - so it passes the settings to Gamejack.

i think my Scanner is the best ;)
you just have to select the protected exe, dll or dat file
and you get the protection information with some cracking hints and other stuff.

Yea there's that too! And it's always being updated.

But how do you know which ExE/DLL,DAT file is protected? If any?

And the newest version of Clony doesn't offer any copy protection information or cracking. It simply scans the disc and tells you that the protection is

in most cases the game executable is protected.
like in C&C Reneage itīs Game.exe wich is safedisc protected.

Otherwise, scan all exe/dll/dat files in the game install dir:D

Obviously. but sometimes the EXE is compressed and not on the CD. I take it works just as well if I scan the EXE on my harddrive?

gh0sth@cker 06-03-2003 16:31

Yes it's exactly the same.

DownwardSpyral 06-03-2003 19:05

And what is this Win32DASM it keeps talking about???

The program doesn't seem to detect any copy protection on my discs. ClonyXXL and YaPS can find Safedisc and Securom, but this thing just tells me it has "Possible CD-Checks"

ByteMare 06-03-2003 23:02

win32dasm is a hex editor which allows you to edit files i.e for removing CD-checks and similar

DownwardSpyral 07-03-2003 23:30

How easy is it to remove CD checks or other Copy Protection?

Or is it just easier to grab a cracked exe off GCW?

gh0sth@cker 08-03-2003 02:48

cdkiller has a few tutorials on his website - most are German, although there are a few English ones. They are very useful for learning how to remove cd-checks.
And yes, it can be easier to download one from GCW :)
