How to take Dx9 out of .img ?

I just bought Impossible Creatures and it requires the installation of dx9.The demo works on 8.1...it appears this is Bills' way of spreading the joy.I don't believe dx9 is really needed to run this game and I hesitate to upgrade as in the past, dx upgrades have screwed up my installed games and required mass reinstalls and formats. My question is:

How can I copy the game to an image file and then edit it to
delete the dx9 setup folder?
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Why?
The game is still going to ask you do you want to install DirectX 9. And then if the user clicks Yes, then it's gonna try to install it, and as it's not there, it's won't be too pleased. ;)

How about just clicking 'No' when asked do you want to install DX9

It doesn't ask! It just starts installing it.I had to shut down my comp to stop the installation.
I looked at the cd in browse mode and there is a seperate
dx9 steup folder.I'm hoping if it's not there it may install without it but of course....I could be wrong.

contrary to popular beliefs, dx9 is quite stable, and lets face it, more and more games are demanding it now, so maybe you should just bite the bullet and install it once and for all

You can also try WinISO V5.3 and/or IsoBuster 1.3 !!!

my suggestion is
don't wasting your time by installing that DX 9 cos
it not finished yet (demo)
i still can play imp. creatures with DX 8.1 :(
