Is the original in good shape? Are you mulitasking while burning? Did you follow the tutorial in the sticky? You do have a mod right?

eidos69 25-02-2003 16:02

An important post that is stuck at the top of the board for easy access. Click on the Backup Procedures one and go to the RecordNow Max tutorial.

I have the external version (Sony DRX-500UL) and am experiencing the same thing with the same game, using RecorndNow Max to a tee and Ritek 1x's. I also get choppy video on most of the games I've made back-ups of. I've had someone else make back-ups for me with their DVD burner and they work flawlessly. :(

I guess it's time to try different media with the Sony burner and try adjusting my laser height and see if I can get a better read from the Sony Burn. Anyone else recommend anything not mentioned thus far? (yes, the laser's clean).

The burns I make also cause the PS2 to make clicking noises, is this damaging the PS2 at all?

I have a brand new v7 Messiah 2 chipped, and like I said, when other people make back-up copies for me I experience none of these problems.

EDIT: Is there anyway to know for sure these blank purple/silver discs I bought from some internet company are actually Riteks?

mach7 26-02-2003 07:36

OK, so after making that last post I decided to try some things before I had to go to work. Instead of taking apart the PS2 and adjusting the white cog I decided to just start rifling through the big spool of Riteks I own.

I throw one in and burn Vice City at 2-speed...... 30 minutes later I had a near perfect copy. No more PS2 making strange clicking sounds, and only the slightest pausing happened one or two times during the intro, game ran flawlessly.

This is after burning four Ritek's at 1x into skipping, click-sound inducing Vice City coasters.... WTF??

So, I need to get home tonight to try and re-burn the games with skipping video at 2-speed to see if it fixes that.

Has anyone ever heard of this kind of thing before, burning games at 2x working better than at 1x???

How long should normally take to burn a full DVD at 1x, about 60 minutes right?

Freakzilla 26-02-2003 10:45

if you are using recordnow you will need the upgrade to 4.5
i have a sonydru500a and i made perfect x box and ps2 backups of my games
and use ritek

Some have reported in the past that games are "overburned" when burned at 1x and have better results at 2x. You might try taking a disc from the bottom(if on a spindle) and try at 1x again. You could have got some bad discs.

mach7 26-02-2003 12:21

Thanks bighap, I'll try that.

Video still choppy at 2x. :\

mach7 26-02-2003 16:26

If you wouldn't mind answering another question.... :)

Does the clicking noises when the PS2 has a hard time reading the disc damage or wear out the PS2?

bighap 26-02-2003 16:37

If you have this problem, the laser is struggling to read the disc. This requires it to work harder. If your discs are working but you get a lot of clicking you are probably having media issues and might want to try another brand. The backups you had your friend make, did they use their own media? If so, give him one of your Riteks and let him burn it. If you still have problems then you know it's the media.

mach7 26-02-2003 18:56

Yeah, he used one of my disks. :o

Guess your burner doesn't like Ritek or your burner is screwy. I would go pick up a couple different brand discs at a local shop or borrow one from your friend and see if you have any better luck.

Yeah, I burned those back-ups for mach7.

I too have had FMV skipping problems with most backups I've made. But I have been burning @ 1x. Looks like I've got some testing to do.

I made a 1x back-up of Tony Hawk 4 on Ritek with RNM 4.01. Really bad FMV skipage. Made another 1x with RNM 4.5, didn't see any skipping. But at the same time I upgraded RNM, I also gave my 104 it's own IDE port (it was sharing one with my cd-rw).

So who knows if 4.5 made the difference or not. But I'll be testing out 2x burns.
