help with backups..

I like to make backups to preserve my original cd's, like most of you here probably, but my problem is I just upgraded to windows xp and now none of my backups work, i get an installshield error and asked to send an error report, any help is appreciated

Have you tried Windows Update?

RincewindTheWiz 25-02-2003 16:47

I'm betting you upgraded instead of making a fresh install, you made Windows XP keep the settings from your previous OS, right ? If you did this, I recommend doing a fresh install of XP, so do not keep previous settings. There's a lot of stuff in previous OS'ses that can break XP, it can lead to the weirdest kinds of errors.

my install was from scratch, i let xp format my hard drive and i kept no settings, and yes i've tried windows update....any other ideas?

try manually copying all the files off the CD to make sure that the CD is readable.

Damn ! It was worth a shot I guess :D So, how many backups exhibit this behavior. All of them, only the ones with an installshield setup.exe,... How many have you tried ? And do the original cds work ?

all of my backups are giving me some kind of error. and the originals do work

Well, I'm stumped. You can make a new T-shirt, saying something like "RincewindTheWiz can't solve my problem". I'm really out of ideas. Hopefully someone else here knows what to do. Good luck with it. Oh, maybe one last thing : try making a NEW backup under XP. Try to make it of one of the games whose backup fails. See if the new backup also fails.
