current rules

Seem people are confused as to the purpose of this forum and its rules. Or maybe I'm the one confused =)

The author of the recent patch request didnt seem to understand the rules. So maybe there's something that needs tweaking in the rules so he/she and others will less likely make a mistake.

The current rules:

"- We aren't tech support either. If you are having a problem with a game or something contact tech support. This includes installing patches, gameplay issues and a bunch of other things.
"

Maybe read:

- We aren't tech support either. If you are having a problem with a game running on your machine or missing product, contact tech support listed in your manual or on their website. This includes installing/locating official patches, gameplay issues, hints, etc.

- This is a forum to support problems that only exists when a crack/fix is applied. Confirm that the problem goes away when you unapply the crack/fix BEFORE you post.

The first point is definately a good one. I believe if your second point was to include 1:1 backups or Alchol backups, then you might have something. I will leave this thread open to get some feedback from other users. But I can kind of guess what they are going to say. - Mod

Fair enough. This new ruleset seems to be a really good add on for the current ones. The BIG problem of course is getting people to READ the rules in the first place. I especially like the second one, since this is something I always have to ask first when someone wants me to help them. The number of problems with cracks is way low in comparison to problems with the game in general, yet most people seem to assume it's the crack that's not working.

Not everyone has a burner, or a burner that can do 1:1 images.

Add another line?

- Have you tried 1:1 burn and/or mount an image rather than use a crack/fix? Start with this link....

Sounds good, but it's ultimately up to Cirkutz what he wants in there. I just wish there was a way to automatically display the rules when someone registers, would save us a lot of time and effort.

That wasen't a god rule. You'll see, it's can be good to know iformation about the new patch. And not all the time the patch are listed in the tech supports homepage. So it can be hard to find that out.
When the crack/fix is applied, there still can be gameplay issues. And that is a tech support. So U giving the user both derictions.

This is how I want it.
- Check out update for your soundcard, graphic card, OS, and media players etc. Applie official patch. Test if the game work property with your original CD:s if it's do and U got just a tiny little fine problem when U playe with the crack/fix file U should write about it here. Or when U are trying to backup your game after you have use the seatch button and read all the stickys you are also welcom to write here.

If every one follow that rule, the topic writers should dissaper. The forum should be very empty......so maybe that isn't a good rule at all. But it's kind of boring to answer the same god dame question 1000 times. Why can't people use the search button or read the rules?

Krondike, that long sig gives me a headache, just when I thought Rincewinds was a bit long. But I am just one opinion so dont take it personal.

There are other forums with other topics that I go to when I want to dive into something. The reason I come here is for help with cracks/fixes. There are far better forums with technical help with software.

Also there are costs involved with bandwidth and servers that someone has to pay. The people paying for this forum have put this forum together for specific purposes and the love of those purposes. We can ask for additional forums here but I wouldnt be surprised if they turn the idea down. Their patience already gets taxed by the idiots trampling this place.
