Network adapter....

Thinking about getting the network adapter for my PS2. I have Madden03 and Socom. I only have dialup access. I think i heard that Socom is only for high speed access. IS this true? Can dialup work OK? What are other games that use the network adapter? thanks

What you hear is true, SOCOM only works with a broadband connection. I have included a link that gives a list of available online games and their compatibility with dialup and broadband.
Here

Thats a bummer on Socom. I suck at the game but i like it. Doesnt look like too many games that are online compatible but i'm sure the list will get larger.

Yeah the list will start growing pretty fast now. More and more creators are getting into the online aspect. You even see Sony Online Entertainment(SOE) commercails now.

Do back-up copies of online games play online correctly with the Messiah 2?

rubber2k1 20-02-2003 09:13

Yes as far as i know, copied games do work. I havent read otherwise. Is the definition of broadband anything that is faster than 56k? For example at work we have 5 computers in the network. Each computer has an ethernet card. But all computers are connected to a hub and main modem that dials up. So i guess thats still a dialup connection?

most pc backups dont work for online gaming, because of software that detects the key. People are always asking for keys for games....

Yes, burned games work fine with the network adapter. Broadband is either satelite, dsl, cable, T1, or T3. Yes, sounds like you are using a dial up at work.

Yeah...I got my cable modem back in July or AUgust.....Cant remember but it was the day Socom came out.....We have a T1 at work and I hated to come home to my 56k......It actuallt worked out cheaper....We were paying 80 bucks for Dish and 20 for
(shudder) AOL....... And now we pay 98 bucks and I have a kickbut connection....It's actually faster than our t1 because we share with another office...I know that Xbox live has some kind of detection or something so if you have mod......They will know.....But I guess you can disable the Messiah 2 somehow but I forgot........Don't have mine yet...But soon.......Very soon.....
And the online pc thing......I was a big Starcraft player and I remember everyone asking for a key.....But of course they cracked that too.....Ahh the genius of today.......

will this work?

I am wanting to have my computer and PS2 to share a phoneline connection at the same time. So if someone is using the 'puter to surf the web they can also go online with the PS2. I heard that if i put a ethernet card in my computer and run cat5 from the card to the ps2 that would work when my computer dials up. They would both share the internet, is that true? or will i need to setup a network? thanks

mach7 24-02-2003 07:52

That would work with a switch CAT5 cable rubber2k1, but a dial-up being shared would be too slow to get anything done, or even play a PS2 game I would wager.

Also, if you are sharing an internet connection from a computer (as opposed to a router or hub), I'd only recommend it if you have Windows XP/NT/2000.

You can share a connection but it would be kind of pointless becasue it would be extremely slow. If you had broadband it would be a different story.

could u play with vdsl connection
Well it's not out here in Ireland but it's out in korea
My friend has that connection and he might buy a games console if vdsl is ok for online gaming
Man vdsl is like 50mb per sec
Not good as t3 I here but I think t3 is only for bussiness
In Ireland adsl is for business!!!
It costs about 100euro for just line rental!!!
that's 10times of korea(with same spec)

rubber2k1 24-02-2003 19:30

broadband is too expensive. $30-40 per month is alot. Yes its faster but still.:(
