Magic 3.1 DVD Movie playback ?
 

Hi,

I searched the forums but did not see anyone with this question....

I recently put a Magic 3.1 universal modchip(The blue one with the smiley face on it) into a v5/v6 PS2. All the games both CD-R and DVD-R work fine....however, I can no longer play DVD movies only. Even commercial DVD movies do not work any more, it just says 'Please insert Playsation 2 format disc'. I know this unit could play the movies before the modchip. Has anyone seen or heard of this before ? Any insight would be greatly appreciated

How are you trying to boot the dvd movies?

I would put the DVD in, then press the reset button.....

If your just pressing the reset button, that is the problem.... PS1 games and dvd movies DONT boot the same as PS2 games...

Try this:

Playstation 1 games & DVD Movies

• Power up from STANDBY with RESET button held until the blue EJECT light comes on; then release RESET and the disk will boot.

(Note: this is with the disc already in the tray and the tray closed and the PS2 in standby)

I am glad it was so simple of a solution. After reading about the Magic 3.1 on some forums I had worried I had made a mistake in purchasing it, but now all is good. I appreciate the help.

(But you still should have purchased a Messiah 2 instead!!:D )
