Need opinions on the Apple chip, for ver.5/6

My buddy has a 30001 R, which I guess is a v5, or v6 ? Not too familiar with that family or PS2's.

Anyone here running an Apple chip in one ? Opinions ? I read Charlie's review of the Apple in a v7, and xenosaga booted fine. How about other DVD9 games ?

His choices are the Apple, or Messiah 2. Since I have a Messiah 2, I know there are no problems. But he'd like to save a few bucks, if he could.

Bighap has a Apple chip in his.....He loves it.....

Although I would still get the Messiah 2......:)

Like BG said, I love my Apple. It works flawlessly. I consider it to be the #2 chip behind the Messiah 2. The Apple was also dust2dust's chip of choice until the Messiah 2 came out. You can get it for about $20 cheaper than the Messiah 2. Bought mine from http://www.modchip-sbox.com. Good company. I highly recommend using them and the Apple. :)

What are some differences between the Apple and Messiah 2 ?

They both seem to be able to boot all the same formats no problem. I've noticed Magic chips don't want to boot lesser quality CD-R media, such as Memorex. But the Messiah 2 boots it all no problem.

Is the Apple picky like the Magics ? What exactly are the down sides to the Apple ?

I have yet to find a downside. The only real difference between the Apple and Messiah 2 is the boot method.

Thanks for the help bighap & BG.

I'll be sure to pass all this info on to my buddy.
