PS backups and 80 min CD's?
 

I thought I read a while back that PS1 games need to be backed up to 74min 650MB CD-R's. Someone stated that the newer 80min 700MB CD-R's do not work well. Is this true? Has anyone backed up a PS1 game onto 700MB CD-R's?

Not true, I only use 80 minute Cdr's.

my friend mike who is a pc programer told my 74 min and 80 min cdrs are the same there is no difference its just if your burner suports overburn then you can make it a 80 min cdr even a 74 min cdr can be made into a 80 min cdr but only if your burner suports overburn and i also only use the ones that say 80 min

Not correct... a 80 min cd-r is not the same as a 74 min cd-r overburned... if U overburn a 74 min you can obtain 75~76 min maximum!

The tracks and... whoa, I don't know how to say it in english (in italian we call them "le vesciche")... the holes to be burned are different in 80 min cd-r.

Only older cd readers can't read a 80 min cd-r... and older means before 1994 (ISO 14-852 specification about laser products)

It could also be noted that a 74 minute CDR media is not certified past 74 min, so anything over that, even overburned to 75 or 76 would not be guaranteed to work every time, and if it did work, it may not continue to work over time.
