What do i need?

Hello, haven't got my X Box chipped yet but im looking into the backing up part at the moment.

What stuff to i need to connect my X Box to my PC?

I read on here you need a router. Do you need to use a router?

rms2001 28-01-2003 13:08

You will need a program called EvolutionX (aka EvoX) that makes an FTP server on your XBox, so you FTP in to copy all the files off the game DVD to make your back ups.

No you dont need a router, you can use a crossover cable, a hub, or a switch.

Ok thanks RMS.
How much is a crossover cable?

And where can i get this Evox and how will i get it onto my x box?

rms2001 28-01-2003 13:43

Well I really cant say. I've never bought one, I've made all mine. One thing that mite be cheaper is to buy two straight cables and a "crossover converter" I dont know if thats their real name but its looks like a network cable linking box. The ones I've seen look just like the boxes you would use to link to RJ45 cables together, but it makes a crossover link in side, so you just use two straight cables and with the converter linking them together to get a crossover. I bet your local computer store will know what I'm talking about.

I found a converter on ebay, your local computer store may have some thing that looks diff. RJ45 Crossover Converter

If its a true crossover cable and not just a straight cable, there is no need for a hub, switch, or router.

Thanks, do you know anyone who will chip an X Box in the north west of england?

rms2001 29-01-2003 14:09

Oh your in the UK, I didnt see that before. No I dont know any installers off hand and But charlie_ps2 or dust2dust live in the UK and are into PS2 modchips. I bet one of them could install an XBox modchip for you. I don't know if they live in the north west part of England, but it mite be worth asking them to see any way.

Chris174 29-01-2003 14:55

Ok thanks bud, i think i'll just take it to a comp show in manchester and get it done at that show.
I seen them doing it, just didn't get a price on it.

What's the best mod chip for x box?

AXmichigan 29-01-2003 15:40

i suggest the x2 lite

rms2001 29-01-2003 17:01

Yes the X2 Lite would be the chip you want if your going to have one soldered.

Chris174 30-01-2003 12:02

Ok, do i need to use a boot disk to boot the games?

dude 30-01-2003 14:12

dude
if the chip is installed properley and you are using the original dash the game will boot as normal.

if you are using evox you have 2 options you can set it to auto launch the game or not to, i sudgest you set it not to auto launch games.
you then insert the game once it stops flashing press reboot.

later dudes
