Fear Me. I am not SafeDisc 2. Im your nightmare !
Ive been #####ing gamecopyworld ( as usual ) and have come across this 'FADE' protection. How scary is it. I mean, i cant copy safedisc 2 games but with gamecopyworld i can download and use patches and other utilities such as unsafedisc to remove the protection and play the game.
But backing up games with this 'FADE' protection is scary, can we conquer this, will there be anything to counter attack this. IS THIS THE END. Read the following: "Created for the early September launch of the mighty military simulator Operation Flashpoint, one of the most anticipated PC games of the year, Codemasters has equipped Operation Flashpoint with embedded coding that can recognise the difference between counterfeit and real copies of the game's CD. If a pirate CD is identified, the game automatically disables key gaming features and instigates a number of subtle changes that adversely effect gameplay. Anyone attempting to play an illegal copy of Operation Flashpoint will begin with a game that looks and plays just like the real thing. However, over a period of time, the game gradually self-modifies and degrades elements of play to a point where the game is no longer playable." |
Been a lot of discussion about this some time ago, matey.
The big thing to remember is that this coding is as only as good as the protection mechanism it relies on. i.e. if your disc is a 1:1 copy then how does the prog know it's a copy?? The only protection causing probs at the mo, is Safedisc2. BUT, many people are having probs installing and running ORIGINAL discs. So, is it good marketing to rely upon an imperfect protection mechanism which may well stuff up users who are playing from an original? Me thinks not. There is no panic here. There is a certain amount of BS associated with this sort of thing. Why? To make you buy the original and not copy it, of course. Even if this mechanism was to be introduced, how long do you think it would take for a crack or patch to surface? Not very long I bet ya. |
