PS2 Backups

This is my first post so be patient with me

oops pressed enter by mistake, told you I was new... lol

just got myself a pioneer 105 dvd rw, now do I need to chip my sons ps2 to make backups, and if so what is the easiest way without soldering wires.

Also how do I tell the version of the PS2? we got it for christmas last.

Yes you need a chip. I would get a solder mod like the Messiah 2 installed by a pro, but if really want to do the swap steps required by the No Solder mod then go for it. You can see what you have to go through in the PS2 Boot Procedures Sticky(second post) You can check your version here
