CD RW question (quickie)

This may sound daft to some of you but here goes so be gental with me please :p I brought a CD RW from a computer fayre when i 1st got into my PC proparly, (about 5 months ago).
Anyway i diddnt get it in a box it just came in a jiffy see through bag thingy and i realy would like to no the make ect. The only info i have on it is in my signature at the bottom. I dont think this makes any difference but incase it dose here goes, along the bottom of the cdrw there is a line of holes (its a air vent obviously lol). I have many games, new games with all different sorts of protection on them and have only had probs backing up one game wich was mafia (safedisk ab 2.51 i think) and the probs i had were software related i think but i have also backed it up sucsessfully now. I would realy like to no how i can obtain any further info on my cdrw as i want to no how many sheep i get with clone cd and CDRW 201040 1.23 isnt listed lol.
I am forced to belive it is at least a half decent cdrw because of all the sucsessfull back ups i have made in the past and i buy games regulary includidng medal of honor AA, sperhead ,max payne ect wich seem to have given many other people loads of trouble. Please anyone dont say go back to the computer fayre and find the vendor i got it from :D ...Thank you for any valuable info you may provide

Well, look at ANY information you can find on the drive. If you find something that looks like a type or series name, like "P4012X", you can always type that in Google and see where you get with it.

As allways RINCE your info was much help and i was able to find out exactly what i needed from something i should of guessed doing myself. Thanks

Well, it supports RAW-DAO, wich is a good thing to start with, and from the fact that it can make a 1:1 copy of SD2.51 games it figures that it must be a two sheep writer. Now the only question is wheter or not it supports Subcodes.

coffin filler 22-01-2003 14:57

Ok and thanks emptyeighty for your info but i must say "Subcodes" WTF  LOL And there was me thinking i had got my head around the most important stuff like RAW-DAO:
RAW-SAO: and Buffer Underrun but now i feel like a compleate newbie again when only the other night i felt as though i was finley beggining to understand.

If you look for "RW-201040" with google, there's a bunch of manufacturers that pop up, like Acer, Fedelia and Artec. Normally you should have a name in the manufacturer field but yours doesn't seem to have one. What was the code you looked for after my first reply ? Was it "RW-201040" ? BTW it looks like a pretty good drive, my old plextor 16 speed gives me No on "Compatible with CloneCD RAW-SAO".

@ RINCE after your initial post i looked up RW-201040 and was taken to a site with many matching cdrw201040. (if i remember correctly i was taken to a firmware revision site but when i used the link provided within the site there were many different manufactures so i diddnt realy find out what i wanted to no). Before i had looked proparly into the site i assumed (stupidly) that because cdrw201040 1.23 was listed i had found the site that would give me the info i want so i quickly saved the site as a favourite and came back here to post my message of thanks to you :p . (i learnt a valuable lesson, check and dont assume lol)
