Modding Woes

I have one of those Modchip Cartridges that plug into the back, the instructions CLAIM that this thing is stealth, but it obviously isnt, since I cant get games like DDR2 and some others to boot (strange that games like Lagens of Dragoon work though, maybe its only for Jap anti-stealth games?).

Anyway, so does anybody know of a way to make this game work? I have found no patches and the gameshark code does nothing.

I have a SCPH7001

Also, if not, anybody know where I can get a very good soldering iron so I can install a modchip? I really messed up on my previous modding attempt (melted off the resister on Wire 4) because the tip was too big. Anybody know where I can get a good soldering iron (Under 15W) with a REALLY small tip? Also, does anybody have any tips (tools to hold the iron, board steady, make sure I dont solder the incorrect point, etc) on installing it? wire 4 is pretty much the only one that gives me problems, and the fact that the ddr games have such REDICOUSLY high protection is driving me nuts. I legally bought my copy of DDR2 and cant play it because of this >.<

I've got maybe the same mod. Except my situation is that after the playstation is turned on the menu screen freezes. Any advice?

This is the link to where I got the mod from and the mod that I have.

try adding C1000000 0000 as the first code

is it a cd-r because when i made a back up of resident evil survivor and put it in my psone with no mod chip the psx was saying my psx may have been modifeid

Hmmm........ its weird, heres the deal:

Its a USA NTSC system:

The Legend of Dragoon USA (original) - Boots
Tomba 2 USA (copied) - Dosent boot (I was able to patch it though)
DDR 2 JAP ORIGINAL import - Dosent boot
DDR 2 JAP Backup - Dosent Boot

Basically the ONLY ant-stealth games itll boot are original USA games, copied games dont seem to work. and ANY import, original or copied, dosent seem to work. I tried using a GS code I found for gameshark to get past it, dosent work. When I tried it on my friend's psx (he has a mod chip but NOT a tealth mod) DDR2 only booted with the GS code. It dosent boot on mine no matter what though.

Professional soldering irons cost from $65 - $500. Don't think you want to pay that to solder one joint. I'd just get a $10 radioshack 15 watter.

One thing that helps me is to use wire wrapping wire, its really thin (#32) and stays in the shape you bend it. Also called kylnar(sp?) its at radio shack. While you're there pick up a 8 pin DIP socket, it'll keep you from melting your chip if it isn't prewired.

Take your wire and bend a very very small circle or V at the stripped end. Place it where it goes and tape or hot glue it in place.

Wait for your iron to reach full heat and add solder so the tip is thinly coated, no drips hanging. Extra solder can be removed with a wet sponge.

Place the tip inside circle and centered on the solder spot. Wait a sec and you'll feel the iron drop a hair as the solder on the board melts. Now lift the iron straight up and you should have a good joint.

Hope that helps.

I am starting to suspect that some of these anti-mod games nto only check for a modchip, but also check if the bootsector is still on the cd, maybe thats why copies dont work, ill have to make a copy of Legend of Dragoon and see if the backup dosent.

I tried adding C100000 to the beginning, didnt work. Ironic it worked before in my cousin's psx that had a non-stealth chip and a normal gs, but it dosent work in my modcart/gs.

I res mainly hoping I could find a soldergun that has a REALLY small tip, like a needle tip or something, last time I soldered too much and melted the entire resister off because of that. Also, is there anything weaker then 15W in the affordable range? Or anything to help you keep your hand steady while soldering?

A friend of mine always pre-resins the wires (brown gel) before he solders it to the board, says it allows the solder to grab hold quicker for less of a chance of ruining your system.

I don't attempt it myself but have seen him work.
