dashupdate.xbe warning
dudes read this
originally posted by a friend at xbox-hq.com forum On some of the latest games there is a file in the root diectory (where default.xbe is) called dashupdate.xbe - if you have a modded xbox then check the files on the root directory of the games as i read on xbox scene that this file can be a problem to some modded xboxes. It has something to do with xbox live. Apparently when you select to play online it updates the "xboxdash.xbe file . Most people use a straight evox bios which requires you to rename the evoxdash.xbe to xboxdash.xbe so that evolution-x dashboard boots instead of the original Microsoft (M$) dashboard. The trouble is when the game updates the xboxdash.xbe its actually altering the file that boots the evolution-x dashboard which means the xbox will no longer boot upp. The only way to get the xbox to boot up to the evolution-x dashboard after this happens is to boot from a CDRW/DVDRW with evolution-x on it and delete the altered xboxdash.xbe file and replace it with the evolution-x version as before. To get around this problem:- Use one of the evox ybox bios's and leave the original M$ xboxdash.xbe file as is and upload the evolution-x dashboard file and name it "yboxdash.xbe - That way no harm can be done by this update program cos evolution-x dashboard boots from yboxdash.xbe and not xboxdash.xbe If you have a switch that turns the bios on/off then its better to use an evox ybox bios cos when you boot with the modchip turned off it boots like a normal xbox to the M$ dashboard, but if you turn the modchip on it boots to the evolution-x dashboard. If you use a evox ybox bios you dont have to worry about the xboxdash.xbe file being updated cos, depending on your modchip, its either not used or only used when the modchip is turned off. If you are making a copy of a game with this file in the root directory then i read that if you replace the dashupdate.xbe file with the evo-x dashboard file renamed to dashupdate.xbe then if the update tries to trigger then it just reboots the xbox to the evolution-x dashboard and not harm is done. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by - roadrash on 02 Dec 2002 14:42:14 |
This is a big problem and I'm glad you posted this. This is what messed up my xbox for a day. If it werent for my father modding someone elses xbox, I wouldn't have gotten the backed up files.
I just hope everyone backs up their xbox C drive incase thay accidentally hit "go live". |
dude
i agree it is essential that everyone possible keeps a backup of their c drive as you know i tried the xbox os prog and killed my hd if i had'nt had a backed up hd i would be screwed |
couldn't you you just not take that file off the game and then use it
|
Im not sure what your saying. Yes, you could leave the file on the game, and still use it. But if you have the evoX dashboard set up and accidentally hit "go live", then your screwed (unless you have ybox or other hacked bios like that).

OK
i understand but dont ungerstand Can you great Mentors tell us newbies what just happen and explain again about the dashboard again it went by so fast also explian it that i might understand like step bu step |
Its just an idea Quall999
since i use your site as my tutor would it be ok if you add that info about the dashboard warning to your section and on how to do it for us slow people |
dudes
this is how i understand it if you have a mod chip installed and use evox as your primary dashbourd be carefull. if you connect to live running a game with the dashupdate.xbe file it will update your dashboard, the problem arises if the evox dash has been renamed xboxdash.xbe as the update will rewrite it and your xbox will not boot up after. if you have a ybox bios installed you dont have to rename the evox dash to xboxdash.xbe as the bios does not boot from the xboxdash it boots straite from the evoxdash which you rename to yboxdash.xbe. you can also replace the dashupdate.xbe file from the game with the evox dash renamed to dashupdate.xbe, so if the update triggers it should reboot to the evox dash and avoid harm. p.s it's still a good idea to keep a backup of the c drive so if you encounter this problem you can boot from evox using a cd-rw /dvd-r/rw and replace the damaged data on the c drive hope this helps later dudes |
