Pioneer A05 reads/writes in raw mode

Yes peeps, tis true, I used it to back-up Harry Potter last night:)

BG 14-01-2003 06:52

Don't you love the A05......:)

Hull_chipper 14-01-2003 07:36

Yep I wasted months waiting for a Sony! I just got a Pioneer 117 to go with it which will make the perfect duplicator. Alas tis bye bye to my cd duplicator now (1-7 32x) PM me if anybody is interested.

Hull_chipper 14-01-2003 10:20

Change of plan - the 117 won't read in raw mode (bugga). Does anybody know a dvd-rom which does?

platinum 14-01-2003 11:59

does this mean the A05 is good for writing CD based games too? i was thinking of geting one of them $30 52x lite-on's for doing CD's but if the A05 is just as good i wont have to buy it.

BG 14-01-2003 12:03

Yes... It will.....

Although if I were you, I would spend the $30 bucks and get a seperate drive.... It will save the additional wear and tear on your expensive A05 and only cost you 30 bucks more.... ALOT better wearing out a 30 dollar cd burner than wearing out a 200-300 dollar dvd burner.....

Just my opinion...:)

platinum 14-01-2003 12:11

thats true but really how many CD based games are there? i dont think there are many ( that are any good anyway :p )

snake2 14-01-2003 12:15

so this means it is 100% compatible with clone cd?

Try finding a Toshiba dvd-rom. They are the best and are 100% clone cd compatable meaning they read all sub channel data for copying cd games although the Pioneer dvd-r writers will not write RAW-DAO-96.I use a toshiba dvd rom with my pioneer A03 for dvd-r burning, for cd games i use a 100% clonecd compatable sony cdrw. The pioneer burners are usless for copy protected cd games.

It may read in RAW and copy some cd games but it doesn't read RAW-DAO-96 which is required to make 1:1 backups.

Sorry m8 - I have the 105 & it works perfectly with clone! Tried & tested!

Hull_chipper 14-01-2003 17:55

Well, I've copied Harry Potter (chamber of secrets) and Star Wars racer 'revenge' @ 12x using datasafe media on my 105.

Warlock 14-01-2003 17:56

Yes clone cd will recognize the drive and will copy some games but it will not copy RAW dao 96.

Warlock 14-01-2003 17:59

Hull, see if the A05 will allow you to read sub channel data.

Warlock 14-01-2003 18:06

Well according to the new clonecd 4.1.01 my A03 will read and write sub channel data but i know for a FACT that it dont support this. I will do a little research on this and see if it is something that is software corrected.
