I've read and read and read...what am I doing wrong?
 

Regarding 1942. I just read 4 pages worth, a couple FAQs, here and I'm still unable to start the game.

I extracted idx-bf12.rar using winrar 3.x and ie6.0

Installed the game

put the bf1942.exe and bf1942.org in the EA GAMES/Battlefield 1942 directory. Ask to replace bf1942.exe: "yes"

Now here is where I get confused: It states to put the mod.dll in the Battlefield 1942/MODS/BF1942 directory. Are you supposed to create the MODS/BF1942 folders to place the mod.dll in? That is what I did. Created two new folders. If the MOD directory is supposed to already be there, pleasetell me this.

When I do as stated above, it won't start...just hangs for second.

I heard that the frequency refresh rates are different between the game and your normal video settings, and you have to manually adjust them to do this.

Someone stated that its under the MODS directory once again. But the only thing there is the mod.dll file I put there and LOGS folder which is automatically created when you first attempt to start the game. There are no ext.s I can open with wordpad and adjust the refresh rate.

I know these threads get old so I'm trying lay my problems out as best I can with as much info as possible.

No, there should be a mods\bf1942 subdir UNDER your Battlefield 1942 directory, e.g. "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\". That's where you put the mod.dll, OVERWRITING the old one. You clearly did something wrong, check in the right directory and of course make sure you patch the game to v1.2 first.

Thanks :). There was definately no MODS subdir with either the before or after install dir...and yes no other patches before I attempted this most important patch first.

One more question and I'll leave this alone. Are their different versions of 1942 that would affect the use of the 1.2 patch? I have not heard this being brought up but before maybe you could shed some light if it has been.

The US version is the same as the UK version and the UK version also gets sold in some other european countries like Belgium and the Netherlands. It can be that some versions are localised, but in general you should have no problems. There was a bad version of the 1.2 patch spread, you can check if you've got the right one by looking at the size. The correct 1.2 patch is 22,956,029 bytes big, the bad one is 22,955,046 bytes. Make sure you haven't got the bad one. I'd reinstall your game, patch to v1.2 and then try out with the originals to see if you're getting online. If that works, try the idx crack. You should have a mods\bf1942 directory. I'm running without any crack here and I've got that directory and file (\mods\bf1942\mod.dll). I don't know whether that file was instlled by the v1.2 patch or was already installed with bf1942 itself. Oh, and that crack DOES NOT for the moment work with any mods. That's why I ask you to reinstall, there's all kinds of reports about problems with mods. I think someone here had a crack that worked for mods too but I forgot who ;)

I think we have the problem. The 1.2 nocd crack works fine on all our 'puters CEPT the nvidia chipset.

It has to be the chipset! Now the solution? Beats me. Did not install the new 1.2 crack yet, the one that fixes the mod problem.

AHHHH!!!! Damn it this sucks! I haven't had time to mess with it since that day I asked but I guess I'll be ready for the failure :(

edit: BTW, did CDkiller's nocd crack w/mod support work on your buddies NF2 mobo?
