Death Crimson OX USA on PAL Gun

There are no patches / fixes around, but im sure if i could edit the ip.bin and 1st_read.bin the gun would work.

I was thinking of changing the region in ip.bin to JUE or even J E only and removing protection codes with Megalexxx´s app.

The problem is that there are no ip/1st_read files, the only bin file in the cd is 00dea.bin and weighs almost 9mbs.

It might be an Accession release (i dont have the original files).

Any clues?

NOTE: I could open the entire iso end look 4 KATANA but how do i extract ip and 1st_read in order to edit them?

Megalexxx,i think i need u this time ;)

It's easy to extract an ip.bin :
_ use CDIRip on your CDI image, note LBA value
_ use ISOFix using this LBA
_ rename boot.bin to ip.bin

To find the 1st read file, open ip.bin with an ip editor (like ipbin4win). You'll find it easily.

Anyway, I don't think it will help you : I already tried this. :)
I don't know how it works, but I think guns calculate screen position by catching the spot on your TV. Since these games are designed to work at a specific frame rate, they won't work with another unless you change this calculation...
It's only my opinion; I should be right.

Are you 100% positive about that?
I use a Mad Catz (Pal) Lightgun on a NTSC-Dreamcast with both 60 Hz/50 Hz - Shooters. Never had any problem. But I don't have Death Crimson OX.
Only can tell by my experience with House of the Dead, VC2 and Confidential Mission...

Megalexxx 10-01-2003 03:51

No, in fact, I don't know.
But I would be happy to learn how it works.
If anyone has info, please tell us. :)

Cool,got it. thx

I dunno how does it work either, but i do have some crappy cds to waste. Ill try editing ip even though i know it wont work lol

Some 3rd party guns are universal (work on all regions, even on 100hz tvs),i guess madcatz is one of them (slider one = lucky boy...) .My Sega Gun is definitely not. I have both US/PAL Confi Mission versions and the american one doesnt work.

PLZPLZPLZ i really need more info, too.

Curious bit: if u unplug the revolver after the nasty "non compatible" message and then plug it again u can play with the gun as if it was a controller, using the gun pad, but of course its no use lol

This is how a lightgun works, btw

Megalexxx is right

Megalexxx is right, and after you get the IP.BIN out using CDIRip, you can patch it using IPBIN4Win to add Gun support

Enuff 10-01-2003 12:57

Megalexxx is always right,as far as i know

So is it possible to do what i was thinking?

Have u done it yourself, Gambit?

Gambit531 10-01-2003 13:02

Well In Theory

Well the Control, Video, Region and Button options are in the IP.BIN, so if the game supports it, this is whare you can disable or enable it. You can use IPBIN4WIN for a nice GUI to edit it. But no I havnt ran into this problem, or tested it, but its the most logical attempt. I could do it, if you emailed me the IP.BIN, its only 32Kb.

thx but i can edit it myself, me is not such a noob ;)

Ill keep u guys updated anyway

I own the Sega Gun and i think its lame usa versions do not work, i had an iso of DCOX USA but didn't even bother burning it. Now i still miss 3 files of the japanese version, why are those jp gun games so hard to get there are alot of EU DC players with the same problem right?? :D

BTW any1 can use the gun in Death crimson 2 jp (not OX) in the gun sequences of this (quite crappy) game the gun only acts if its releading while i clearly shoot the screen. Will adding gun support solve this maybe?
