Hint 4 anyone fitting own mod.
 

It does make a lot of difference what wire u use for fitting mods. Have been trying to get a messiah to work in my mates version 4 ps2 for last couple of weeks. It turns out that the wire I was using was degrading signal quality and stopping it from doing the business...

Wire to have is 30AWG with Kynar insulation 1/4 mm single core, 1/2 mm overall diameter. The other wire I was using is same diameter core and looks similar but just wasn't up to the job.
