You can get no solder modchips from

http://www.kanection.co.uk/

or

http://www.shoeclinic.co.uk/Modchips.htm

You are better off getting a no swap modchip installed professionally, like a Messiah 2.

just get the swap magic 2
these boot disks allow you
to boot dvd-r with a single swap.
as long as your existing chip allows
you to open the tray (press and hold)
it will work.......
i tried to use a action reply + no solder mod
to boot dvd-r for 6 months without success.

swap magic 2 did it in 30 seconds.
boot with swap magic 2 dvd boot disk
do swap trick...(replace boot disk with backup game dvd-r)
press x and play game.

dead easy no aggro......

@ pjclark

2 short questions please:

2) Did You have any success with DVD-rips on CDR-media with
swap magic 2 ?

Thanx for answering-

The no solder mod with swap magic 2 discs is only useful for straight 1:1 copy's. Ie NO DVD RIPS.

Even with that it isn't perfect. I've got the set up temp while I wait for messiah 2 order. Around 6-7 games I have will not boot when using swap magic 2. If you are looking for a complete ps2 modchip which allows you to do ANYTHING then go for messiah 2.

You'l appreciate it in the long run.

Just to give you guys a reason to YELL at me.... :)
Why go through all the BS, and get a no solder chip, and magic swap discs????

You are not saving a BIG amount of money and you have to swap.... Why not just get a direct boot chip that will boot everything.....(Since it is well know that the Swap Magic Discs will NOT BOOT everything like they claim....)

Ok..... Flame AWAY....:D Just wondering...

Hull_chipper 08-01-2003 00:41

Because some peeps like antiques BG :D

I can buy 3 sets of v7 no solder and magic 2 swap disks for the price of messiah 2 plus install so it is a saving really. Plus it's easy enough to do at home for those who don't want to send their machine away.

I personally rate this set up (IMOA for my uses) a good one.
I only have 1:1's and have a ps1 for my ps1 games. Sure messiah 2 is the daddy *i'l be installing mine in 2 weeks* but why all the hating???

Don't understand.

Why don't we all just get along? :p

I know what you mean, BUT there are some games that even with a 1:1 backup the swap magic disc won't boot.....

And besides...... I just like to cause trouble..... :D :D :D

Jay_83 08-01-2003 13:27

LOL!! :D

I've updated a list somewhere on the forum with the games that i've tried and do/don't work. They boot fine if you use action replay2 to boot them. And unlike the magic 3, if you play the original at least that works and doesn't freeze!!!!!

I like to cause trouble too sometimes:D

NO SOLDER RULES :D hahahahahaha! J/K!

I gotta agree with BG here. The swap magic disc do not boot all games, if you are going to use this mod you are better off using AR2, GS2 to boot the backups, you will also need a hi TOC original. We make backups so our originals dont get damaged, what happens after you purchase all this and the GS2 gets scratched up?? Or perhaps the dvd original gets damaged. Say what you want but it is going to happen sooner or later and you are going to spend more money. It may cost a FEW dollars more to get a no-swap chip + install but you only pay it once. People can argue or analyze it any way they wont but in all its cheaper to get a no-swap to start with than to waste money on swap chips and boot disc.

Jay_83 09-01-2003 05:46

What i'm getting at is there are some games that no swap mods don't even load. psxmodchips reported a lot the magic series don't boot and sorry but if I can't even play my original gta vice city without it freezing thats a bit crap really isn't it?????

As for the action replay 2 getting scratched up...sorry but thats a crap. If you don't look after your disks it's you're own problem. and how it would get scratched up with a nosolder mod I couldn't see it. With neo2.2 possibly seeing as you're holding reset down all the time.

I don't know your prices etc but nowhere hear could do a ps2 noswap for a FEW dollars more. In manchester you can freely pick up noswap mod for £10 then £10 for swap magic 2 disk or £20 for action replay.
So it's either £20 or £30. whereas there is no way any installers around here (i know them personally) will do messiah 2 or magic 3 installed for less than £80

Yes they not perfect but neither is magic 3.

I have been doing installs since the day the first saturn mod came out, and followed backups since commodore64 tapes:p

Just I used to find this forum was helpful to anyone regardless of which mod they have. Any1 who posts with anything other than messiah or magic problems just gets comments such as "It's crap get a messiah2" i advise the messiah 2 over all and have a personal machine finally as from today with messiah2.
But why not help the peeps that don't have the finances.
