Magic 3.5
 

Anyone know anything about this chip (magic 3.5)? I just read about it for the first time. Seems like there's only 9 wires to solder as opposed to 23 for the messiah and it's clones. I am currently using the no solder chip with the swap magic disk. If this new chip requires only 9 wires to solder I will definitely get it. I am afraid of the 23 wires but I can handle 9. Any input will be appreciated.

i hear a lot of good about it, yet someone here says that it only works 25% of the time,,,,i can help you better when i get mine in... i ordered it on 12/24/02, and im still waiting........i hear that a 3.1 with a clip is better tho

The Magic 3.5 is a Magic 3 and a clip kit for it which reduces the number of wires to solder. There are still some difficult points to solder.

I think the 3.5/6 is a waste of time! If you are capable of soldering the 9 wires you are capable of soldering the rest.

Basic rules of life, keep it simple, the more complicated things get, the more chance they have of breaking.

Your message sort of contradicts itself. First you say there really is'nt a difference between 9 and 23 wires, but then you say the more complicated things get, the more chances of breaking it.

I sort of agree with the second statement, even though I do it for a living (electronics), when it comes to surface mount tack soldering, the fewer wires you have to deal with, the better your odds are with success.

After having just installed 2 of them, yes, I totally agree. The magic 3.5 is good for one thing, you can pre-wire the thing because of the plug-in harness, but the clip that snaps over the LSI IC, WORTHLESS. After many failed attempts, I yanked the chip clip off and hard soldered the wires where they should be and it worked like a champ.
