PS2 Modchip
Can anybody help.
I bought a secondhand ps2 with a modchip and was wondering which type it was. I insert a regionX disk first then when that boots swap for the game cd and press start. I am having problems with fifa2003 it seems to get get part way through the loading and then hangs and I have seen something about added protection on EA games. Is this correct and do I need to do something to the copy. Sorry if the questions seem a little stupid but without knowing which modchip I have I am not sure why I am having the problems. Thanx |
Well if your using a swap disk, its a solderless or a Neo.
|
Just hope it's not a neo.
|
I think he said it might me a neo. Whats the problem if it is.
|
The neo chips kill your laser. Worse chip you can have considering it does harm to your PS2.
|
If it is a NEO is there anyway I can tell. Does it damage the laser over a long period of time or pretty quick. I think the PS2 is about 12 months old, but not used much in the last six months.
Is it easy to change the chip, and which one would you recommend. |
You could open it up and look if you like. Or check out mod boot procedures here and see if your boot procedure matches up with the no solder or the neo 2.2. It depends on how much use it gets. It doesn't take to long for it to kill your laser. You can change chips but it's not easy unless you are a very experienced at soldering. If you find it to be a neo I would sell the whole thing and get a new PS2 with a fresh laser. The best chip around is the messiah 2.
|
So to be a pain, but all the guides talk about using either AR2 or GS2, but I use a Region X disk. Whats the difference.
Also what is the price of new laser and are they easy to fit. |
Turn your ps2 *nothing in the drive*on but hold down the power button. Wait for at least 5-6 seconds then let go of it. If your cd drive ejects you have a neo modchip
Turn your ps2 on like normal.*nothing in the drive* then hold down your eject button. If the drive ejects you have a no solder mod. As for the difference between action replay2 and dvdregionx as far as i know the dvdregionx cannot boot dvdr based games. Don't quote me but i'm 95% sure. Hope this helps |
I am thinking of putting a Messiah 2 chip inplace. Is there a good chance that the laser is OK.
Does anybody know a chipper in the UK - North West |
Sorry m8 but if you look around the forums you will discover that peeps sell their PS2ooz privately at the first sign of probs! Not saying this is def the case but, maybe you should sell it & buy a brand new one!
Try & identify which model it is so we have an idea how old it is. They dont last forever unfortunately! |
Thanx for the reply
I have not got any problems with it I was only trying to find which chip was in it and i was told that the neo chip can cause laser problems. All the games seem to load etc that is why I am thinking of changing for a newer chip. I have only just bought the machine (from a good friend - so i do not think he will have had problems with it). Would you recommend the messiah 2 chip. |
Did you try what i told you to do above? That way you can tell if you have a neo 2.2
Messiah 2 would be good but it's best to make sure the drive is in good condition with dvdrs playing ok |
Thankx for the advice.
Yes I tried and it is a neo chip (ejected after 5-6 seconds). is there any difference between a neo 2.0 and neo 2.2 (effect on laser). I am using a regionX so I can not try a dvd-r. |
