if i have a magic 3 modchip and made a 1:1 copy of a regular cd game including the subchannels do i need to patch the game and if i do what does the patch do and what are the different types of patches ,

No need for patches if you use Clone CD to burn 1:1 copies of your CD based games if you have a Magic chip.

ok but then what are the different types of patches used for

EA patches- for EA titles (no need if using Clone CD and your mod chip)
PAL-NTSC patches- converts a PAL displayed game to a NTSC (US) displayed game so it will display correctly on a NTSC tv..
NTSC-PAL patches- same as above except vice versa.
There are a few others, but with the mod chip you have and the methods you use to backup, you have no need for patches, except unless you want a PAL-NTSC patch....
