noob at DVD9...

i'm not sure if i understand the whole thing between dvd5 & dvd9 but anyway, here's my question

-» can i read/write dvd's in a dvd9 format with a Pioneer DVR-A05 DVD writer ?

psx_paul 20-12-2002 04:22

DVD5 = 4.7GB disc
DVD9 = 9.4GB disc

No you cant.

Suffo 20-12-2002 04:25

ah ok thanks.

another thing, will all future dvd ps2 games be in DVD9 format? (cause i heard about Devil May Cry 2 being in dvd9 and i don't want to buy a new dvd writer next month)

also, is it possible to like, write 1 dvd9 ps2 game in several dvd5 discs?

ottoman 20-12-2002 04:36

Well, no such thing as a dvd9 writer yet (well, couldn't find mention of one on web yesterday) but chances are when dvd9 games are more common you will be able to get hold of a rip kit (just like with copying dvd games to cdr) or a patch which will allow you to write the game to two dvd5's................

Suffo 20-12-2002 05:22

right, thanks for the help

dusted 20-12-2002 17:47

alternatively we can all do a boycott of any DVD-9 releases. In other words we don't buy them. We tell others not to buy them. And those others tell others not to buy them. Hopefully it'll roll into a snowball effect, then Sony gets the message and viola... no more dvd9 games.

:p

ottoman 20-12-2002 18:06

Hmmmm.... Nice thought but how long would people last against getting hold of something like time splitters 3 or GTA 5 if there was no copys available???

I don't think it'll be a problem. Rip kits R gonna be the way ahead and give it a year or so and dvd9 burners will probably start poppping up.

Regards................:D

sometimes sacrifices in the present have to be made to change the future.

Azn Rice Boi 20-12-2002 21:42

Will the PS2, later on, be using other types of DVD media like DVD10, DVD14, or DVD18?

ottoman 21-12-2002 17:56

Possibly but at the mo there isn't many DVD9 games around so I don't think its anything to worry about just yet, maybe with the PS3?????

Regards

Actually PSX-Paul, you can read a dvd-9 game to harddrive but burning it is the problem.

Ottoman, there are dvd9 games out. Supposedly Metal Gear Solid Substance for PS2 (not out yet) will be dvd9 and Xenosaga is already dvd9.

I just played the game Xenosaga with my Messiah 2 and noticed that the beginning of the game is in english. The rest is in jap language and text.

Ottoman said there aren't many dvd9 games out yet, but he was answering my question as to the PS2 using dvd10 dvd14 and dvd18 later on in the future. I just wanted to know if it is actually possible to read those types of media.

TylerDurden 22-12-2002 08:45

I really dont think dvd10 and up will be possible. If anything, the type of media we use will change. Who knows we may not even use discs anymore.

I stand corrected

as said the man in the orthopedic shoes :p

I wasn't 100% sure on the read side :)

TylerDurden 22-12-2002 10:02

Yeah I tried it when Xenosaga first came out. I was just messing around with it but I was able to read the entire disc. At the time I used Prassi with the image breakdown patch. But since that same patch works with Stomp you can still do it. People with Windows XP can do it just about any way.
