No-solderchip + swap disc mods...

Gonna install a no-solder chip in a friends PS2 39001 v7 console. Just wondered if there were any problems in playing dvd-r backups or cd-r backups with this mod? I have some EA Sports game so i didnt know if it boots up as easily as my Magic2? thanks

Magic 2 is a no swap mod while the no solder is a swap mod. Here are the boot procedures for the no solder mod.

Booting a Playstation2 DVD (Silver or DVD-R) Gameshark 2 V1.99b and BELOW

• Boot GS2 disc 1.
• At the main screen, press the EJECT button to eject the CD tray.
• Replace the GS2 disc with an original PS2 DVD game, such as Devil May Cry.
• Close the CD tray (press EJECT again) and wait for about 30 seconds.
• Select START GAME and then select WITHOUT CODES.
• Once the GS2 is asking to change the game disc, press the EJECT button till the light changes from green to orange.
• The CD tray will now open and you can replace the DVD game with your backup copy.
• The CD tray will automatically close after about 5 seconds.
• Wait till the the power LED changes from orange to green again and press X now to start the game.

Booting a Playstation2 DVD (Silver or DVD-R) Gameshark 2 V2.01 and ABOVE

Thanks to Nighstalker for this method!

• Boot GS2 disc 1.
• At the main screen, press the EJECT button to eject the CD tray.
• Replace the GS2 disc with an original PS2 DVD game.
• Close the CD tray (press EJECT again) and wait for 15 seconds.
• Select gameshark codes and turn on or off any code on any game.
• Press start, select with codes and press x to load game.
• A black screen will appear saying "updating codes please wait"
• Do the R-mod swap by pressing and holding eject, swap with backup, tray will close and game will load.

• NOTE: The swap must be performed within the time you see the black screen.

• Nighstalker has tested this method with GS2 v 2.01 through 2.11.

• It works 100% of the time providing the backup is good.

You are going to find that the Swap Magic Discs SUCK..... There are quite a few games that those discs WILL NOT BOOT. (Mostly NEWER games).... Which more than likely means, some of the newer games that will be released won't boot either....

"There are quite a few games that those discs WILL NOT BOOT"

Why is that?

Not really sure.... It may be a TOC issue.... There have been quite a few people on this forum that have named quite a few games that will not boot with those discs....

argh...
I just ordered the V7 no solder and swap disc. haven't received it yet. Do you guys think I should send it back, and get one that solders in? I was a little aprehensive about attempting to solder myself but I have a friend who may be able to do it. I would prefer not to pay someone $80 to do it for me. Does anyone know of anyone in the Northern VA, US. area that does it?

BELEIVE ME, get a "direct boot" chip such as the Messiah 2 or Magic 3..... Its well worth the money.....
You can send your PS2 to Bill @ Freedomlives.com ...
He can do the install for you... Hes in Chicago and it doesn't cost very much to ship it to him...

I have the Magic2 and its Love. Put the DVD-R in and hit reset. Thats it.

I hope he has good luck with the No solder chip.
