Messiah2: on-off? Games don't load

ok, got my ps2 back from the installer

Fired it up, put dvd-r back up of timesplitters2 in. It worked fine, played the entire cut scene. Then it froze when trying to load the first mission.

Then I tried GTA: VC: game wouldn't boot. Stuck at system config screen. Same for silent hill2, smackdown4.

All these games are on TDK dvd-R, burnt at 2x with Prassi.

Then i tried CD-R. Got the red screen saying the disc is not a ps2 disc.

HELP!!

FYI: This is a v7 ps2.

One cause of this problem is described in the troubleshooting section of the v7 Install Guide on www.messiah2.com.

Your laser might need azimuth adjustment.

thanks for the reply charlie.

I feel like pulling out all my hair:

cd-rs will play but freeze

Dvd-Rs take me to the system config/browse screen

ORIGINAL TEKKEN 4 won't play, it gives the same system config screen as the DVD-Rs.

ORIGINAL movie DVDs won't play. Same screen as the DVD-Rs.

ORIGINAL music CD will play.

This is a BRAND new v7!! :(

ok, i followed the messiah 2 usage instructions in the v7 install guide and i got the original dvd to play. But it was freezing, playing, freezing.

I also got the cd-r game to boot.

I got the original dvd ps2 game to boot. It worked fine for the game menu and the cutscene but froze when trying to load the game itself.

And NOW, i can't get anything to work again. WTF! :(

Established: CD-R media works, nothing DVD works: not original ps2 games, not dvd movies, not dvd-r backups.

I played 2 games on CD-R right now and they seemed fine.

So does this indicate a bad laser? This is supposed to be a brand new ps2!! Should I get it replaced?
