Online Authorization

I was looking at this link:
http://www.spacetarget.com/gcw/games...fenstein.shtml

The line up top that says Protection, it says Online Authorization

I was wondering if someone could explain to me what that means?

It means that the copy-protection method used for the game is a CD key/serial number which is checked/validated before play over the Internet is allowed.

Hey! The game IS bought, how else am I burning it? Not borrowing it. Its $29 at comp usa for the game of the year edition. Thats what I have.

My questions are brought up because I have a home LAN with several computers. 3 of them are well capable of running this game. When having friends over and we do multiplayer, I would rather find an alternate way to play other then buying multiple copies of something I already have.

You can do it.

Legal issues aside, you can play the game on all of your PC's without buying extra copies of the game IF you run your own server and IF that server is not listed on the Internet, i.e. set to run in LAN mode via "set +dedicated 1".

I understand, and you are right. I tested it while I was home for lunch on two of my machines, with one burned copy in one of them. LAN worked great. Looking forward to this weekend for some in-home multiplayer action while the wives are gabbing downstairs :-(

Not that this is why I asked the question, but I was also able to connect to the same internet game room from both machines inside my network as well. Hmmm.. Not that it really matters with these guys, they only have low end dial up and will probabaly buy wolf after playing around with it this weekend..

Thanks for the answers people!

That is not possible with standard/unmodified Internet-listed servers. You might want to add that server to your favorites list. ;)
