V4 No solder problem. PLease help.
I have a V4 NTSC with a no-solder chip. It has worked fine for two months booting all originals and backups. Now when I put in Devil May Cry and wait 15 seconds I still hear noises (spinning I think) and if I proceed with the boot process it will hang at the "updateing codes" screen. It does boot fine sometimes and when it does work I don't hear any noises after about 9 seconds. I can't figure out what the problem is. I do know it has something to do whith the noises I hear when it won't boot and the lack of noise when it does boot. Standing it upright seemed to work better. Could it be my chip is not seated right? I did notice where the chip goes into the board it is not a very tight fit. Is that normal or should it be as tight as a memory chip would be on a PC? All my originals boot fine. Can someone please shed some light on this for me? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me like the laser may be the culprit... Because of the fact you said, "It seems to work better when upright"
And all of the "noises" you are hearing is the laser trying to focus on the disc... Try cleaning the laser with a cleaning disc (the ones with the little brushes on it).... See if that helps. If not you may need to get ahold of a new laser...:( |
Also make sure the original dvd (DMC) isnt dirty or damaged.

If you hold eject down and the power light changes to yellow>and the drive ejects then it isn't the chip thats the culprit.
Thus suggesting what the guys above state. Hope this helps |
After looking at my DMC, it does appear to be scratches on the disc. I will try a different copy of DMC if I can find one. I will reply with the results. Thanks for the help!!
