Just got an Xbox, wanna add linux.
 

I just bought an Xbox, and I've only got a little knowledge on modding it and everything. It looks like the X-ecuter is what chip i'm going to buy. It's got that special shape, and you dont have to program it yourself... (unless it's the way to go, and someone can provide me the programming). I think I have a 4304 build, and that there are special ways to burn xbox DVDs. I have a Phillips DVD+RW burner, and have tried burning a dvd movie, and it plays fine. I was just wondering what I need to know besides getting a modchip and downloading the linux system.

How do I copy the games? I heard it was possible to copy them to my XBox HD and play them off the HD. yes? no? Using the Xecutor chip, i know the main soldering points should be easy, but how hard would it be to solder that other wire? Thanks much.

there' an x-ecutor 2 lite thats out.It's a new chip and You should get it instead of the first. Installing is just as easy.

Anyways, you don't need xbix linux to copy games. You need a program called evolutionX (for your xbox) and an FTP program (FlashFXP is the best). You create a network to your xbox with your PC. Those 2 programs are what you use to connect. If you have a router. it makes the job alot easier.

You do have to burn xbox games a specific way. You use a program called Xiso to make an xbox iso image, then just burn it with PrimoDVD, or Nero.

Yes, xbox games can be played off the HDD. But, you need to do the HDD mod (replace the xbox Hard-drive with a much larger one, about 80 gigz should be nice). Playing games off your original HDD isn't good, because the alot of those drives are used to put temperary information. If you use up the memory....

Hrmmm. Ok, maybe i wont do linux cuz it does look liek it would not be worth the hassle, considering i have linux on my comp anyway. My question now is, how much of a difference if tehre between the xecutor 1 and 2? I only see flash upgradeability. do i really need that? I'm asking because at EBX I have a 14 day return poilicy, and i got this box 2 days ago. I was gonna order the xececutor 1 becasue it's available now, and i could probably get it in like 2-4 days.

The reason i'm worried about my return policy is due to the fact of that one wire. It seems like the other "pads" will be simple enough to do, but that one other wire... I've had bad experiences.... (trying to put in a Origa chip for my ps2 a long time ago..... >_<) so yea, how hard is that to put in? I've got a soldering iron (20w/40w) that has somewhat of a pointed tip, but it's not incredibly sharp or anything. Can someone give me some advice? Thanx.
