Maybe a solution to Mafia?

This may sound silly to you, but I am wondering whether I found the source of all my problems. When I installed the first cd from the clone image, I had no problems, but when I installed with the cdrw media, I noticed something peculiar. The last illustration that is supposed to be displayed during installment did not pop up. Instead, all I saw was the status bar, which acted strangely as though it was having a hard time reading. I then tried using my Pioneer DVD/CD 106S to install and it had the same problems as my Lite-On. It occurred to me that it seemed as though the disk didn't contain ALL the info in the first CD. Maybe that is why I was always stuck on the second disk of installation; the first disk wasn't done loading since my CDRW media didn't have enough space to hold all the files. When having problems, I kept getting an install error message when I installed the second disk. The message read something like "a4 data was not found on second disk." This reinforced my hypothesis. Upon looking at the image file for clone, I saw that my first disk image was 774,695KBs, the second was 810,244KBs and the third was 815,752KBs. My disks only contain 700 MB of space. Looking at the properties of the first burned disk, I saw that it only had 688 MB of space and no free space! All the problems that I have had and all the coasters I have made may have been due to the stupid media I was using. I don't know whether the result of the burned image file is supposed to match the size of the image file itself, but I think I'm on to something. Is it possible that the makers of Mafia, in an attempt to foil morons like myself, used higher disk space media? My Memorex media says 700MB right on the disks. Thanks for your patience for reading this long and painful post. Please reply with feedback!

So are you saying that my media is not the problem? I was really hoping it was since I am having the worst time backing up this game. I don't mind so much since I enjoy learning, but I'm getting quite frustrated. I used Clone v4 with my new Lite-on 48 speed. I did not amplify weak sectors, I read the data @ 1 speed and wrote in 1 speed. I have 98SE...and did I mention that I am really frustrated?

CloneCD reads RAW-sectors (2352 bytes), the data is stored in the so-called cooked sector (2048bytes), so thatīs why the .img-file is bigger. Additional sub-channel data stored in the .sub-file make the difference between the data you īseeī and the size of the image bigger.
The problem you have sounds like a bad burn, if you write on cd-rw, be sure to use good media, also try a new cd-rw - may be the one you used is bad.
Btw which CloneCD version did you use, and which LiteOn writer do you have?

What media is good? I have cheap Memorex media, but it has always worked for me in the past. I have to admit though, I have written on these three specific disks a lot trying to back up this game.

But the problems really start with the first cd. Note the peculiarities from my initial post.

Dayzd 30-11-2002 01:21

Would this actually work using the temp and nero? If so, what is the purpose of clone? All three disks are protected with Safedisk v2.70.3xx

Dayzd 30-11-2002 01:34

Actually, I don't have a working backup on CDR. I believe you are referring to my initial post when I said that the first disk installed fine from the image file. I used Daemon and mounted the Clone image without any of the glitches I'm having using the CDRW media. Actually, I do have another question. Is there a way to minimize the install, go to desktop to unmount the first disk image and mount second disk image using Daemon?

Dayzd 30-11-2002 01:44

In my clone log post, that was my third disk I was attempting to back-up. Additionally, I was using my Plextor PX-W4012A (which I heard may not be the best at backing up Safedisk). In that log, I was experiencing some unreadable sectors in the 120,000 range that I didn't understand. I have not had any reoccurrences (with my Lite-On)of this inexplicable read problem. CirKutz, I am not trying to be argumentative. I am earnestly attempting to learn from you guys and appreciate all the help I can get.

Dayzd 30-11-2002 01:52

Okay...I'll reburn my images right now. Thanks

Dayzd 30-11-2002 02:29

CirKutz and Copytrooper were both right. The whole problem was not as complicated as it sounded. I just was frustrated because first, I used a Plextor to try copy C-Dilla material. Second, by the time I bought and received my lite-on, I had attempted about a million attempts using my plextor and the same three CDRWs. When I tried using my lite-on, the CDRWs were no longer good media. Finally Copytrooper and CirKutz set me straight. Thank you very much!!!:D

I have now successfully copied, installed and played Mafia. Thanks for all the help guys. I'm sure you will be happy not to see my desperate pleas daily! I am really enthralled with this "art," so I may (and probably will) require assistance at a later date. Thanks again.
