whats the difference between mode 1 and mode 2.

I'm trying to copy txr2 in a different way beside what the instruction say because it doesn't work. and the selfbooting kit didnt work too.

so basiclly i want to make it a non-selfbooting disc. I took a look at House of the dead and it only had one session which was in mode 1. so would it be that mode 1 is a non-selbooting disc and mode 2 a selfbooting disc with the audio track?
