Civ3:PTW NoCD Crack Crashes game
I've used the Civ3 NoCD crack before with success on this same computer.
With the PTW version, I launch the game, set up my game options (map size, civilization, etc) and as it's "configuring team colors" or something along those lines, it crashes. I'm running WinXP. Any suggestions? |
Uninstall, reinstall from your originals, upgrade to the latest version. Does it work WITHOUT any crack applied ?
|
Yes - the game works fine without the crack applied. I'll try the uninstall-reinstall drill. Thanks.

You didn't by any chance forget to apply the 1.04 official patch ? Don't laugh, someone in another thread forgot, took me 3 messages to discover the truth :D Anyway, try reinstalling, patching to 1.04f, testing that, if it works apply the crack. If it still doesn't work, could you try these cracks ? I know, yours is probably one of these, but try them all to be certain. Try the razor 1911 fixed exe on that page too, I want to know whether all cracks crash. On another note, do you play any other games ? Do you have any other crashes in those games ? And check this thread out. In this thread, someone mentioned that his Civ3:PTW demanded a weird dll, IFC23.DLL. I gave him a link to a setup including that DLL, could you try it too ? It's a long shot, but that's all I can think of for the moment.

The Razor crack doesn't work at all.. acts as if I have no cd in the drive.
I'm uninstalling now... figured I'd try the other crack first. Thanks again for your thorough reply. |
Still no luck... did an uninstall of the patch and PTW, and reinstalled both... even installed that immersion web plugin suggested in the other thread - same behavior as before.

Well, it seems as if you're stuck. I was going to suggest using daemon tools to use an image on your hard disk, but it's securom new. I think the latest version of Alcohol 120% has a feature to make .mds files, you can use these to emulate securom new. It's not the best solution, but I really don't know why the nocd patch doesn't work for you.

Here's some more info (not sure if it'll shed any light on the situation or not):
The system I'm running on is an HP OmniBook 6000 laptop (WinXP). On my desktop PC, I don't seem to have any problems. In fact, the only reason I really want the NoCD crack to work is so I can play LAN games at home without having to swap the CD. Here's the thing... on the laptop, the CD seems to spin up intermittently throughout the game. For example - If I want to launch the game on the desktop PC, I only need the CD in the drive for the initial launch. After the intro movie starts, I can remove the CD and I never need to have it in the drive again. However, on the laptop, if I remove the CD after launch, it will ask for it again just as the game begins and the initial map appears on the screen. I can re-insert the CD, play for a turn, remove it, but at the next turn, it will try to read from the CD again. So, basically, I have to play the whole game with the disc in the drive. Again, this doesn't happen on the desktop pc - even without the NoCD crack. So I'm thinking maybe something is screwy with the laptop... I dunno. |
The problem is probably with your laptop setup. Check that there are no other tasks like antivirus progs, firewalls e.t.c running in the background.
If you have problems with multiplayer Firaxis will release a new patch soon since the multiplayer module has many problems... |
