Which DVD!!!!! Drive

Hi Gang,

I am sure you are sick of seeing these types of questions but I need to ask it again.

Which is the best drive to Backup DVD's and PS2?

SONY or Pioneer

I remember when the CD burners came out, I had bought my first SCSI Yamaha 101 drive for 1200$US in 95 or 96. That was not to expensive back then when we though a 486 DX2 66MHZ with 500meg HD was the best thing out there.

The reason that I ask is that I have been out of the loop for a while and I would not even know what software id the best to do backups with!!!!

Sorry for asking but I had to.....

pioneer is tried and tested by many on this board.
sony is fairly new out, it probably does the job too.

go for the pioneer

hope this helps

I also agree... Pioneer because it has been tested and it seems to work fine with any PS2 games. The sony drive is basically the same but why would u wanna spend an extra like 100$ for an option that isn't really useful (+R/RW). So I say go with Pioneer all the way.

I've got the new Pioneer A05 and it works PERFECTLY for PS2 games and dvd movies also.......:D

The Sony is not a bad burner and it also works for the ones mentioned, BUT I have NO NEED for the +R/RW format.....

I would go for the Pioneer....

Same here, Pioneer is a proven winner. The sony seems to be a good drive but not alot is known about it yet. I would buy a pioneer.

So do the Pioneers support DVD/RW disks? I know with my CD burner I saved myself endless coasters with RW disks.

Yes... The Pioneer supports DVD-RW & DVD-R......

Don't confuse the DVD+RW & DVD+R with the two mentioned above.. They are entirely different formats....

If the drive is going to be be used for dvds and ps2 games then go with a Pioneer. No need for the +r/+rw. Unless your dvd player only supports +r/+rw and not -r/-rw. You can find that out here
