DVDr backups whats wrong?
 

Hi all,

Have Action Replay 2.2
No Solder modchip for v.4 PS2

Tried backups on Verbatims - burned with Primo DVD (and tried Nero), tried every boot method under the sun (?) using MGS2 as original (also Airblade), when tray closes and press X (tried R1 + O also), Ps2 just freezes!!!??

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, everything seems to be right, does the laser need calibrating? (Note -I have been playing CDr backups for ages using the knife trick, works fine):confused:

Try DMC demo as your original, as it's got a really good TOC. If your wondering on how to get it, it comes with Residen Evil Code: Veronica. Try that first.

Note: using the Cog/Knife method can damage your PS2 in the long run. If you have the cash get a MESSIAH 2, just a suggestion.

Thanks for advice Hans - have been reading threads all night and have seen several people dis the knife methods (I have been using a cut down credit card!) Just got this no solder mod, but wish I'd gone for a proper chip!

I do have Res Evil Code V - will give it a go tomorrow morning - cheers.

Hi again,

I didn't have the DMC demo in the end (Code Veronica-Platinum didn't come with demo), so I rented Devil May Cry and tried this one to help me boot backups. Still no joy - freezes on Action Replay screen. I also hear a continual clicking every 1 secong or so from the PS2 as it freezes?!

Running out of ideas - me. Anyone else?

Will any of your Original DVD based games load?

The "clicking" you mentioned sounds like the laser has a problem. Sounds like it is not able to focus on the disc.

BG - I should have said 'sometimes' as clicking does not always happen. Yes my DVD based games and movies play fine, as do backup movies on decent media!

Yeah, like what BG said it could be a possibilty of a laser problem, even though you can watch movies etc. My friend had the same problem and had to eventually buy another PS2. As it wouldn't boot any DVD-R's, Movies and Original DVD PS2 games only CD based original and copy discs.

Have you tried the method by nightstalker posted in BG's boot factoid. Ar2 v 2.x or GS2 v2x will not boot dvd-r without preforming this method.

Yep, i've tried this one - freeze occurs on black 'updating codes's screen. I can't find a boot method I havent tried yet, but thnx for trying to help!!

:p Guess what - I finally managed to make a backup work!

Jeees! These double swap things are fussy - used this method from http://www.modchipworld.co.uk/playst...hips/x830.html Only difference was I waited 15 seconds before pressing X after putting original of DMC in. (Backup was Airblade on Verb with Primo at 2x) Couldn't make backup of DMC work, I assume cos no game has bigger TOC?

Will attempt to backup some of my other games and see how things go!!!!
