cd copy protections detection
 

hi, i just wanted to know if there is another tool than ClonyXXL v2.0.0.6 because now its obsolete, or an updated version maybe?, just to detect wich type & version of the protection

I wouldn't call Clony XXL 2.006 obsolete. It can detect all recognisable copy protections. The only real additions that would be nice is the version number of the protection, more reliabilty in detection of Securom, and support for other duplicating software such as Alcohol, Blindwrite etc.
Clony XXL has been continued again and a new release is on the horizon although it's only in German (for now) - I'm sure someone will translate it at some point.

But for now, if you want to know the version number of a Safedisk or Securom protected exe, then use this tool

Clony is useless for the latest Securom.
 

I would. Clony can't detect the latest Securom even doing a complete disc scan.

Which is exactly why Clony is obsolete.
 

Anyone can do the same thing with a hex editor. The problem is Clony is not detecting the protection on the CD-ROM itself as it should. Therefore, Clony is just guessing at what the correct CloneCD settings should be based on past experience with older versions of Securom rather than based on the recorded data it actually finds on the CD-ROM.

thanxs all, all i wanted is to know if people like us think that its getting older, and not very useful, for example, the creators of blindware suite are updating their proggy to do like clony does, and with alcohol, everything is easier, with that profiles, and its easier to enter to this forum and read vluka article that download clony. so with alcohol and vluka article, clonecd, blindware suite,clony and everything else are becoming unuseful, thats what i think, comments

I personally don't like clony because it doesn't find the newest safedisk and securom protections (at least the English version doesn't). Also, when using the profile it creates in clonecd, clonecd crashed for me :(

clony will not detect the version no.
clony will not detect NEWEST Securom (4.x) or Safedisc (2.0.8.x)
clony will not detect starforce or tages
clony will not detect rare protections
clony will not detect atip checks
clony will not give info on diliberate "defective" cds


but so far none will do that
alcohol will not detect anything but can do some of them
